I am astounded at the number of negative posts that have been published tonight. I can't be bothered naming or quoting you all by name but you all know who you are and what you said. Tonight was an example of four quarters football and any one who couldn't see how it was going to end up were the people who aren't really confident in the quality of our team. They were the ones whining in the first three quarters. They were the ones saying that we were lacking structure. The Swans have in my opinion have played only ONE very bad game of football in twobyears and some " supporters" are still scarred by this event. We have been outplayed on other occasions but not that often.
Anyone one didn't want Jetta playing for us and doubts his about his ability to impact on a game owes an opology after tonight. And maybe I am on old sentimentalist but I thought Adam Goodes provided good value as well tonight.
Anyway it is my opinion that we are looking like grand finalists again an obviously my wish is that we are more switched on then 2014Comment

I'm happy to put my hand up as one of the negative posters. But I can't help thinking how that first half (and many halves of football this year) is going to hold up against a team like Hawthorn. I don't think we look like grand finalists at all so far. Maybe we can turn it around. We've got the talent to do it, but I find there's a lot to be worried about from what I've seen after 7 rounds of footy. Hopefully we rise to the occasion next week and find the form we had most of last season.
I was happy enough with tonight but we will have a much better idea after next week of where we are atComment

I can't wait until later in the season for one of Horse's post match pressers ...
Interviewer: "Tom Mitchell had 73 disposals tonight, applied 14 tackles and kicked 5 goals. You must have been happy with his performance?"
Horse: "Yeah, he was good tonight."Comment

I think some of the criticisms people are making however are fairly legitimate and reflective of what's being an inconsistent and frustrating season thus far. The scapegoating is a little over the top granted, but we look far from being a grand finalist imo.
Supporters will always be seeking perfection - it just the way it is.Comment

Yes DLBIA14 the MCG was not a pleasant place to spend my birthday but, and it is a big but, that day was not reflective of what this team is about.
I understand supporters want consistency and perfection, however realism needs to be factored into the equation. Let's look at some of the results so far we dismantled the Power at their Portress , beat reasonably convincingly what is looking like being a finals bound Giants , went to Freo had more scoring shots but couldn't quite pull off what would have been a huge upset, ran into the Doggies when they had a day to remember still had more scoring shots but went down by four points. Maybe I am too one eyed but we seem to be building nicely and I agree next week will be a great test and an opportunity to overcome the trauma from our last match up against the team that has been the benchmark for the last 4-5 years.
I understand many supporters want perfection but I am a realist and the main point of my post was to emphasise that true supporters stand by their team and don't belittle them especially when they are in the process of inflicting a seven goal belting on a team that only a few years ago was the benchmark.Comment

Some of his decision making is seriously crap. But he always tries to hunt down the bad decision and attack. I'll say that for him. Other than that I could thump him sometimes. And others, not so much.
As for my boy Luke! YAAYY.
Love how Buddy is so team oriented, not Buddy oriented. So much work....... And dear Ted.
I enjoyed this game.If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

Hannebery and Jack, but mostly Hannebery, hit the third quarter with incredible intensity. That was game-changing. Getting first use allowed HFs and mids to press up and hold Geelong in our attacking 50. Brought Reid into the game too.
Mitchell should never not be in the team. And he looked fast to me: spread well, got into space, and in one sequence in the south-western forward pocket ran like a steamtrain to make a tackle. His handballing is a sight to be seen.
Jetta is not a back, and should not be allowed to take kick-ins; he is a wingman, and was fantastic most of the night.
Had Midge run with Bob Murphy the other week we would have won.
Rample, Shaw, McVeigh, Jetta and Richards all turned over ball with poorly-judged 30-70 kicks back into the corridor inside defensive 50, not as a result of direct pressure, but because, for some reason, they weren't prepared to kick to 50-50s down the line. Go figure. Laidler and Smith were great, and Grundy surprised with some of his marking (I'm getting so used to his crazy punches back into the corridor that it shocked to see him taking grabs).
Tippett needs to start delivering.
Rampe needs a haircut, a run with the seconds, and to hide his scrapbook from himself for a few weeks.
Goodes could take over McVeigh's half-back/sweeping role behind the ball, allowing McVeigh to cycle through mids and forwards.
Worst umpiring moment was the call on Rohan for running too far?too fast?along the Eastern wing.Comment

Geelong really came to play, they were choc full of confidence after last week and they took it up to us. I thought we had the better of general play in the first half, and if you take away their 4 goals from 50s + dubious free kicks then the scoreboard would have been a more accurate reflection.
A 10 goal to 2 second half was a really good performance and one we should be happy with.
We're 5 and 2, and a game clear of the Hawks who you'd think are unbeatable judging by the comments on this board.

I do agree that the Swans lifted their intensity noticeably after half-time. Not only were they attacking contests harder (and thus starting to win more than they lost) but they ran harder off the ball too, which is why their ball use improved. It's natural for we supporters to "expect" this all the time but it's unrealistic to think a team can play at top intensity now for a whole match. We were possibly a little lucky that Geelong squandered a few chances when they were on top, and our conversion in front of goal (Buddy aside) was excellent in that first half. So we kept up on the scoreboard. We even returned the favour to Geelong by keeping them in the game longer than we needed to in the 3rd quarter.Comment
