Ah Goodesy, with one minute of a dance that was especially formulated for the Indigenous Under 16 football team, tidied up for the Indigenous All Stars team of 2011 and danced evidently before their game with Richmond, you have provoked a new media feeding frenzy. If nothing else it was worth it to see Eddie, Bruce and Hamish, but mostly Eddie in a state of shock at your temerity and searching desperately for some way to beat up a negative angle and slam you for it but doing it in a way that did not seem to be racist. The resulting charge, 'Adam Goodes has just committed the footballing crime of the century'. What was the crime? His dance intimidated Carlton supporters. It boggles the mind as to what the reaction would have been if he had had a 'Micky O' moment. This now seems to be the media justification for making a mountain out of a molehill. They search the camera angles to see if he went to the boundary line, and to find a shot which only has Carlton supporters in the background! I think Dan Hannebery's comment sums it up ...

What is happening with Jetta? He was good in 2012 but 2013 and 2014 he was not worth his place in the side. Now he last 4 games have very good and last night he was 2nd BOG. Has HE done something different?

He was injured for much of 2013, and when he wasn't, teams were paying him a lot more attention after his 2012 season. Last year you could see the coaches trying to change his game. He spent far more time in traffic, and less out in space. I don't agree that he wasn't worth his spot in the team, but his efforts were, at times, frustratingly inconsistent.

I think we're now just seeing the maturity of a player whose been in the system for a few years, is approaching the level of fitness he needs to be a really good player, and has graduated from being a two trick player to a well rounded and confident one.

"I have had occasion to be less than happy with Adam about some of his statements since his OZ of Year ... especially aligning himself with or putting any fair dinkum credence on anything John Pilger says ... but ... the carry on orchestrated last night by "Look at me" Eddie and a few of his offsiders was a staggering beat up of very little ... Eddie feigned "that's enough" & immediately fostered more negative comments ... all the while delighting in his self perceived smarts ... he dismissed the OK Richo interview as inconclusive and then bagged the journalists who he thought did not give "his" issue enough of a run during the Horse media questions ...the guy should be banned from football commentary & stick to watching Collingwood struggle and asking quiz questions ... is there any way to get the message through to Fox?"

I support Adams right to do these things but I wish he wouldn't. I'm getting tired of the media spotlight being constantly on our club.

It wasn't all that long ago when aboriginal players were regularly vilified by fans and other players alike. Thanks to the pioneering stance led by Michael Long and Nicky Winmar our awareness of racism has been raised to the fore of public discussion and much improvement has been made. Now players of all races and ethnicities can play football without being subjected to racial taunts, at least most of the time. But clearly racism is still widespread in the community and incidents or racial vilification persist.

Adam Goodes has taken the mantle to continue the fight against institutional and casual racism. It is a worthy cause. We need people like Adam to make sure that the issue is not swept under the carpet and we don't revert to the way things were when Adam began his football career. He's clearing the path for young aboriginal players to enter the game without the fear and pain of racial vilification. Being confronting is part of the task. Some of the reaction to his goal celebration illustrates the lack of understanding of the challenges facing Indigenous Australians at every stage of life. If high profile celebrities don't lead the way in the making us aware of the issues, then who will?

It's the AFL's indigenous round and issues relating to indigenous players and the indigenous community are being aired. I think that's what is meant to happen.

Totally agree. Jetta has been a revelation this year. He's finally put his game together to become the complete package we have waited for so long. His impact on games has been enormous and he's become one of our most important players. I hope we don't lose him, because it would be a huge setback for the club.

I'm not convinced a war dance goal celebration during an AFL game will benefit his cause, in fact I doubt that was his reason for doing it.

I went to the game with a buddy who is a Carlton fan, and found myself sitting around in the Carlton bay that Goodesy danced towards. I'm a Swans fan, and I love Goodesy, so take it with a grain of salt- but being right there the only people who were bothered by it were the people who decided to be bothered by it. There were plenty of Carlton fans in that bay that weren't offended, and many who seemed to quite like it- those who didn't enjoy it were the ones who had already decided to boo him regardless of what he did before they got to the ground.

Talking to SEN on Saturday morning, McGuire responded, saying he was ?deeply offended? by anyone inferring he had been critical of the Swan.

Fully agree with this - and Robbo. If you have a problem with what Goodes did, especially if you support the Swans and think he brings undue attention to the club, you may wish to reconsider your underlying issues with racial tolerance. I cheered and remain so proud that he is in the team I support. And I love the fact that Cyril has come out in strong support.

Ok, let me get this straight. It's ok for indigenous dancers to showcase their culture in front of this woman and this man - but not in front of a crowd of Aussie rules football fans in a match during the AFL indigenous round?

It's amazing, isn't it. We are happy to showcase our indigenous heritage to foreigners, but when it comes to internal appreciations not so. It's obvious that the racism has been swept under the carpet and never properly addressed. The loonies on Foxfooty are perfect example of their passive (or even active) racism. I'm very disappointed that some of our Swans supporter on this forum belong into that category as well and it looks to me are proud of it.

Great comment to Robbo about what would the reaction have been if Twitter had been around when Nicky Winmar made his statement? I expect Adam Goodes will be remembered - including his actions last night - when Eddie is dead and buried. And we can tell the kids we were there when it happened.
