Carlton had a massive crack tonight so a 10 goal win is about par.
    Major positives:

    -Kicking accuracy
    -84 tackles
    -Robinson slotting straight in
-Buddy's best game for the year
-Jetta's best game in 3 years
-Goodes' best game for the year
-K.Jack's best game for the year
    -No injuries
    -Cunningham finding form
-Hannebery destroying a tag, outrunning one of the best athletes in the comp.

A lot of commentator talk about the Goodes dance...O'Laughlin did the same in a final against The Eagles in Perth years ago and everyone thought it was hilarious....

I am so glad Cameron Ling is on the commentary team. A voice of non sensationalism and common sense.

Yes, but back then we weren't public enemy no.1, and everyone loved Micky O! Times have changed.....a lot.

Yeah even Carey said what was said and the reason given should be the end of it. Moving on!
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

How ridiculous it was after Goodes gave his explanation of why he celebrated like that, which should simply kill it off as an issue, next segment stupid McLachlan brings it back up again..... another storm in a teacup that will be blown completely out of proportion again by the media.

To kick off the indigenous round our three all had very good games. Parker had a heavy tag but did OK, ditto Hannebery. Josh looked a bit whacked as you might expect but did OK if not brilliantly. Tom worked hard as did Kieren. Young Dan had a pleasing debut.

The ruck needs work. Far too often we had first hands on the ball then Carlton whisked it away. We should give Carlton their due; despite being badly undermanned they had a real go and their field kicking was better than ours overall; Jetta was the standout exception. I found myself wondering how the match would have gone if we had lost our top three midfielders and they had all theirs.

The defence had to work hard tonight and on the whole did a good job, but some of the clangers were terrible: for instance, when the ball is loose on one side of the opposition goal posts, why punch it across the posts when you could punch it the other way? Crazy stuff. Jermy was solid, Rampe had what seems to me his usual mixture of excellence and error, but I remind myself that defenders always have it harder because their errors are more likely to be seen. I think he will continue to improve and I'm happy about his extended contract. Sam Reid had another good game, and I thought Ted was more than serviceable.

The forwards were pretty good and besides Buddy's obvious contribution - he does some things every week that amaze me - Gary Rohan took a couple of steps further towards his brilliant potential. Tippo did OK in his double role.

I wondered at times what had happened to our intensity, but I'm sure a six day turnaround from an extra hard game like last week's took its toll. A ten goal win over a side determined to make a pest of themselves is not to be sneezed at.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Rhyce Shaw tonight has to be highlighted as a player who is on the wane. His disposal was terrible and he seemed not to know what to do. His decision making was dreadful. He was also beaten by his opponents and they did score goals again. His running drive is no good if his disposal is ordinary and his decision making is questionable. That decision to tap the ball toward the Carlton goal was terrible, as a defender you NEVER tap the ball toward the opposition goal. NEVER!!!!! Benny aftarward gestured to him to pick the ball up an handball it!

In all we take the win but we were lethargic. Robbo was a good debut for three quarters but ran out of puff in the last. BJ was crap when he came on. Please don't play him again. There are better options in the Twos in Hewett, Marsh, Birdie.
Shaw had his usual brain farts again tonight - they are in his game every week now, and whilst it doesn't matter against the Blues, it will against a lot of good teams later in the year.

Robinson did well - as you said, run out of puff, but showed plenty I thought, a good solid debut.

The intensity wasn't at the level we would have hoped, but sometimes its as much about chalking up the win as anything else. We still won in a canter and beat them by 10 goals. If Gold Coast play poorly next week, that will be our real chance to flog someone I feel (8 day turn around, nice afternoon game - all setup for plenty of goals).

Watching after game ... what a beat up about the "dance" ... Eddie kept saying let's leave it alone and then continuing the discussion ... some of the others weren't much better ... very disappointing ... Eddie just doesn't understand how biased he is and how many have no respect for him ... shouldn't be on any commentary team.

Pykie might get a lot of tap outs but most go straight to ground or a contested ball. He rarely puts the ball to our advantage. When he hits tyhe ball longer he is good. His long punches last season were wonderful and broke several games open through runners getting onto the ball and kicking goals or hitting players up who did kick goals. This season he has been pretty insipid.
yes ... even a week or two ago he did the same for a while ... at the moment it is pathetic to watch our lack of centre clearances ... Kennedy no longer seems to get any clean ball and make real breaks by hand or foot. Just an ordinary performance in my view.

I thought he was ok when he came on. He had 4 tackles and 6 possessions and all looked pretty clean to me. I watched Cunningham again tonight and most of his stats are cheap possessions. He had 2 tackles for the game and seemed to be loose all game. He was continuously giving directions to other players but never seemed to pick anyone up. One thing BJ has on Cunningham; he has a go. I would leave him in next week.

Agree. Compared to 2012, our clearance work looks tired and disorganised. Timing is slightly off, which leads to spills and turnovers, leading to lost clearances, frustrating to watch. But I keep thinking the six day break after a pressure cooker game may have taken it's toll on them a bit and took the edge off their, so far this season, average skills. So eight day break against GC, and we should be a lot better.......back to average?

Lost centre clearances by 5 to a 'c' grade midfield team. Swans 10 - Carlton 15. How?
