Jones free kick was very harsh as it was just a good spoil that happen at least 20 other times that night without any paid free kick, but what really got me was the 50 meters penalty for monstrous behavior?? No one gets a 50m penalty for behavior, just a warning, even if the guy says F... You ump!!Comment

On the subject of fifty metre penalties though, does anyone else think it's a bit out of whack that you can give one away for putting a toenail over the mark, or even for running through the protected area behind a player (while not interfering with his ability to kick), yet if you give away a free kick and then lie on the player who has earned the free, and refuse to let him up for as long as a minute or so, a fifty is practically never paid? There was one obvious instance of it in yesterday's game (Parker, I think but could have been Jack) but this isn't specific to that instance. It happens at least once in almost every game and yet the penalty is never awarded.Comment

The D-Rex caused a lot of problems insofar as he is @@@@. I am sure they wanted to move Tippett to FF but we also needed him in the ruck.
Franklin could have been moved out of FF and Reid in but Tippett was the man for the job, we just couldn't afford to leave him there.

That's not true. Fifty metre penalties are generally awarded for being abusive towards the umpire. Sometimes even for just politely questioning a decision. Hell, Bazza used to have fifty metre penalties awarded against him just for giving the umpire a glare. So while the original free might have been harsh, the ensuing penalty wasn't really. It was just undisciplined to give it away.

As you said, Drex threw our entire game plan out of whack. I am sure it was not the intention that Tippett and Reid put so much time at the stoppages, but we had to because we were getting smashed. Pre game planning must have considered that Rance plays Buddy well and that we would look to Tippett to get the size mismatch on Chaplin. Goodes and Rohan v. Bachelor and Grimes was favourable as well.
Richmond had 3 very tall forwards, 2 of them around 2 mtrs and Riewoldt around 195 with a great leaping mark and in a good vein of form. I wouldn't think the plan was to leave Laidler on either Griffiths or Vickery. Someone must have been planned to play loose in defence to help Ted out on Riewoldt. But instead Reid spent a lot of time at stoppages while Drex floated around doing nothing. He didn't even need to be defended and he didn't do much defending himself.
I don't know why Mitchell was down for the game, but it certainly didn't help. Unless he was injured we should have subbed off Drex, who btw spent an incredible 91% TOG doing nothing. It's hard to win a game of footy playing one man down all game. Eventually they worked it out and got on top in the second half.Comment

Yes it was Rampe. It was the most bizarre non-50 metre penalty I've ever seen not paid (sorry about the double negative but you know what I mean).Comment

Bloody disgraceful no flag this year, another brain fade .Why haven't we a leader on the field who can motivate . Looked like they needed someone to tell them home truths on the ground / Parker needs to be put in the position next year !Comment

Just love the way he plays his footy and we need a hard nut as captain.
McVeigh has been a great servant to the club but I fear he and Jack's powers are waning. Sooner we get the next generation through the betterComment

Gotta say (in a non-Swans report note) it will be interesting if Richmond get fined for what happened in front of where I was sitting last night (between Tigers and AFL Officials benches). First we had a Richmond trainer swearing at a Swans fan (after being incited) and then Hardwick swore at the AFL officials at 3/4 time. Normally I wouldn't raise an issue like this but when you've got little kids around attending the game the last thing you want to hear is that kind of language coming out of the mouths of team members regardless who you support.
Now that I've gotten that off my chest, we played poor after half-time and the Tigers deserved to win since they upped the intensity - they basically did what Roos tried to do against us in the last game but couldn't when the intensity went up.
Agree that I see Parker or Hanners coming in as potential captains in the future.
I'm not going to single out any players because we were poor across the ground, but it will be interesting to see the team we field against PA considering potential suspensions and the fact that the Reserves played poorly too this week.Comment

Whilst I agree that Cunningham may not be the hardest player in the team, people need to understand that they can't all be contested beasts like Kennedy and Parker etc. He is in the team for his pace to play on an opposition speedster or creative half back and he did a decent job on Houli for the most part although like most he had a better first half the second. One thing that he does do well that a lot of others don't is kick the ball well and mostly to advantage or a target! Yes, I would like to see his tackles up more but I think the thing that we lack more than tackling is pure kicking skills and he is one of few that consistently hits a target over 20 meters or more! Our disposal forward is woeful with quality inside players like Kennedy, Mitchell and sometimes even Hanners consistently butchering the ball and putting it to advantage of the opposition! I usually rest easier when I see Jetts or Cunningham with ball in hand running forward and I'd imagine Buddy and Tippo probably would agree with me!Comment

To be honest, I get the feeling that the Hawks will be in the box seat for another flag. They are just that good. Despite the talent at the Swans, it's just not working as it should. There are holes everywhere, and some of the players shouldn't be playing. Raw talent operating within passable structures is the only thing that has won us games so far. Don't feel like the Swans are the well-oiled unit they should be. While I feel Freo will need everything going their way to win the flag (game style, injuries etc - need to run smoothly for them, otherwise they will falter), it seems that the Hawks can be hit with any circumstance, any injury, any form slump, any median player age - and it does not matter. They still find a way to win. We can't even string 4 quarters together at home with a 'full-strength' list.
The negative comments on RWO are warranted and not reactionary to one match. IMHO they are genuine concerns that need to be sorted out. However, when one talks about replacing old players with new ones, you need to be prepared to lose a few more games for long-term gain, and it is too late for that this year if Swans want top 4. I still think Swans will make top 4, but because of debacles like Rich and WB matches, most likely will face Freo in Perth or Hawks on MCG - bye bye flag (realistically).
Will Longmire drop Shaw and play Jones again? Although a big fan of his, I'm not sure he has the balls or the vision. This is a critical juncture during his Swans tenure. He is in charge of a lot of talent, and is not convincing anyone."Take me down to the Paradise City where the grass is green and the Swans win pretty."Comment

Buddy to the ruck? Seriously? I could entertain him spending some time on the ball, as a midfielder, but there is no way you risk a guy like Buddy in the ruck. Pure and simple.Comment
