[QUOTE=gossipcom;675059]Gotta say (in a non-Swans report note) it will be interesting if Richmond get fined for what happened in front of where I was sitting last night (between Tigers and AFL Officials benches). First we had a Richmond trainer swearing at a Swans fan (after being incited) and then Hardwick swore at the AFL officials at 3/4 time. Normally I wouldn't raise an issue like this but when you've got little kids around attending the game the last thing you want to hear is that kind of language coming out of the mouths of team members regardless who you support.

I don't think that this has been mentioned (and probably won't be) but shouldn't someone have reported this at the time?

I was so disappointed and dismayed that I almost walked out on them in the final quarter. I didn't, but it was a near thing.
The tone was set from before the first bounce: Maric was waiting in the circle for about 90 seconds before anyone else. Derrickx literally had to run the gauntlet to get there. The Swans starting mids did not fly the flag for him, just sort of looked aghast and half-heartedly leant into their opponents. He was beaten then. That Reid had to then start in the square to be third man to get anywhere near the ball stuffed us at bounces, and, as someone else has pointed out, the defensive structure never seemed to recover. To cope, in the second half we seemed to start playing a four man forward half, which not only meant that we were beaten to the ball, but it came back so quickly and with accuracy. Oh for some tempo footy, too: in the third quarter we needed to take the pace off the game, hold onto the pill and chip it around a bit, rather than more bombing it in to Bud and Tip, both of whom had crawled back into their shells. The game day coaching was ordinary to say the least. There was none that I could see. And there is now a clear template for beating us. We DID fly the flag against the Hawkes, but that level of intensity seems to be beyond us on a regular basis.
Shaw HAS to go. Goodes was pretty ordinary too, after a good few weeks. I feel for Smooch, but at the same time, wtf? And we have to bite the ruck bullet and blood one of the big Ns. They simply can't be any worse than DRex and what Pyke's been capable of. Don't know what to think about Tippett any more. And in my despair this morning?only today could I bear looking at the match reports?I was wondering how history will reflect on the big Bud deal: the club he left looks good for a threepeat, the last two without him; he's getting scragged with no protection from teammates or umps, and is reacting to the frustration poorly. We have lost so much to trade for those blokes, not just in the players we had to let go, but those whose development has been stunted, and the loss of future trade opportunities. I love the idea of them in the team, and love what they have done?Bud frequently and Tip all too rarely?but really think that we need to see a lot more, particularly from number 8. I'm not being fair on Bud, I know, who has won us so many games, but we have also become so one dimensional, easily rattled, and I'm annoyed.
McVeigh huffed and puffed in the final huddle at 3/4 time, but cannot lead from HB, or when he goes forward. It was too much like the GF: Jack and McVeigh needed to be head over the ball in the guts. We need leadership.
For mine, it was a worse display than the GF: a game we threw away after a wonderful second quarter, and I just hate losing to Richmond.

There was one obvious instance of it in yesterday's game (Parker, I think but could have been Jack) but this isn't specific to that instance. It happens at least once in almost every game and yet the penalty is never awarded.
I do find 50 metre frees for being over the mark particularly frustrating when it's just a technical interpretation and the player over the mark isn't really impeding in any way. I think it was Jetta who was called for a 50 because the umpire had called for him to come back a few metres and he hadn't- I appreciate that's important for a shot on goal, of if you're crowding the man with the ball, but a few metres really makes little difference when the player awarded the free is already a fair bit back and is looking to just switch play across the ground.

I appreciate some of these things are umpires being technical to provide consistency, but it wouldn't be that hard to add in an assessment of "does it really matter?". A player lying on top of a guy who has just been given a free has a far greater impact.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

One thing that he does do well that a lot of others don't is kick the ball well and mostly to advantage or a target! Yes, I would like to see his tackles up more but I think the thing that we lack more than tackling is pure kicking skills and he is one of few that consistently hits a target over 20 meters or more! Our disposal forward is woeful with quality inside players like Kennedy, Mitchell and sometimes even Hanners consistently butchering the ball and putting it to advantage of the opposition! I usually rest easier when I see Jetts or Cunningham with ball in hand running forward and I'd imagine Buddy and Tippo probably would agree with me!
          I emphatically agree.

I think it wasn't reported because of the Swans fan inciting it (even though they didn't use coarse language) so it would be hard to deem their comments anti-social behaviour. But the officials one, I'd be shocked if the officials that were there didn't make note of Hardwick's comments since they were directed right at them.

As I put above it was one of those things that was shocking to hear at the time so only added to the tensions of the second half from where I was sitting.

But overall, we just played crap in that second half so the above didn't have anything to do with the result, etc.

Troyjones2525 and dimelb must be brothers and enjoy there September's holidays. Harry is just a soft 'ran with' player and it is the easiest job in AFL. 'Taggers' have to tackle, niggle, deny the ball, smash and crash every time. 'Ran with' players just have to ran beside their player and never allow for your player to be free. For his role players like Hill at freo, Boomer 'me, me, me', Harvey at Kangas just stay with them and thats his job. No contested possessions and no tackles.

Imagine 30 seconds to go, 1 point behind, and the ball is on the ground 30m in front of the goals. Just Harry and just one defender, any defender from freo or hawks and they arrive at the same time for the ball. Maybe 1 out 12 harry wins. Towers would be exactly the same. To play at the highest level at some point you just have to put your head over the ball and wear it or stand around flapping. Check the last couple of minutes. Tigers had 4 players on the wing and Harry was the first player there and started flapping. Rohan run past Harry and then chased every handpass between players until they kicked it forward, harry was still flapping in the same spot. There is no GF and maybe PF either if a player will not contest for the ball.

Sorry posters dimelb and troyjones2525 still frazzled about they way we have played in some games this year.

I'm just watching the replay. I agree that derrickx wasn't great in the ruck contests but he wasn't bad around the ground. A few good marks and a goal. That's more than pyke has done all year around the ground. Maybe he should get another game. I guess the question is whether derrickx or nanko would be better

If all you expect from Derricx is a few good marks and a goal, stick Nankervis and Naismith (when he is fit) in there. May as well be getting games into the young guys than wasting it on a mature age player that, no matter how good he is at interviewing people, is never going to be a very good ruckman.

In case you didnt check, Cunningham had 4 tackles which puts him in the top half dozen swan tacklers in the game (Rohan had 1). I agree with you that tackling and hardness is important but so is kicking, and he's one of the few swans who can actually perform that skill with accuracy and penetration!

I don't know if we into the game with the intention of having both Tippett and Reid spend so much time at the stoppages, leaving Derickx to either play forward or just wander around the ground. Or perhaps it was a reaction to Derickx being ineffective in the ruck and having to cover for him. The second doesn't make much sense since you would think we would sub him off instead of Mitchell. If the first is true, then he took 2 key players away from part of the ground where they were most needed. How nice it would have been to have an extra midfielder running around in the second half when we were just being outnumbered at the contests.

I would like to see Nanny get game time. He is part of the future, or the closest thing to it we have at present. He needs the exposure, and over a few games.

I knew Tom Derickx reminded of someone and I finally worked it out.

                            Tom running:

                            And what about this:

Watching bounce on fox footy and they reckon 3 weeks for buddy and 2 for tippett. When tippett's hit was almost exactly the same buddy copped couple weeks back. Bleeping ridiculous

No way Tippett will get 2 - 1 at most, more likely a fine.

If Firrito can punch a guy in the head late, then Tippett should be fine.
