I'm glad he didn't turn up, I certainly hope he gets the chance to be sent off with respect at the SCG next year.
I watched most of the GF but napped through the second quarter. Have never been so lukewarm about a GF

Mel, or anyone else who was at the game, were the Hawthorn fans as obnoxious as last year? Or was 2014 a 'special' performance because of our recruitment of Buddy, and our winning in 2012?
I could hear the Bronx cheers when Kennedy took a couple of marks late in the match, but in general from the TV coverage it was hard to tell what was happening in the crowd.Comment

The Hawks supporters around me were nothing like they are when we play the Hawks. Yeah they were arrogant, (and why shouldn't they after winning 3 in a row), but they weren't abusive to the Eagles players or supporters. That's not to say that it wasn't bad in other areas of the ground but I couldn't hear any booing like Goodes was subjected to, just the Kennedy bronx cheer which was warranted!Mel, or anyone else who was at the game, were the Hawthorn fans as obnoxious as last year? The thing is that they don't hate the Eagles like they hate us or other teams like Geelong. I never had any issues with their supporters until after the 2012 grand final. Then after that there was venom!Comment

Such a beautiful photo.
And I agree that the NRL treat their indigenous players with a lot more respect.
Even Anthony Mundine, who was probably over-hated due to his aboriginality, but who was also genuinely offensive (often to fellow indigenous sportsmen) in his wannabe Muhammad Ali persona never received the hatred that Goodesy got this yearComment

The NRL is miles ahead of AFL in many ways. Last nights grand final was one of the best sporitng events ive ever seen. Im now a big fan of night grand finals.Such a beautiful photo.

We we seated right behind the broncos cheer leaders who had one aboriginal dancer. Around us were heaps of cowboy supporters.
The aboriginal girl got up and did a little solo dance during a stoppage. First thing that i thought of was ... oh @@@@ this is going to be ugly. But i didn't hear a since racist jibe or comment from the crowd. Imagine that at a west coast game ?Comment

I have lost interest in the NRL since Super League but last night was simply unbelievable as a game. The 2005 GF is also hard to beat, very similar in that the match depends on a play in the last second of the match.Comment

To be fair, it was the crowds - and (I think) a relatively small percentage of them - guilty of the disrespect. And maybe the AFL was lukewarm to the issue. But the clubs and players were outward in their support for Goodes and the condemnation of the treatment he received.Comment

I think that's drawing a long now Barry. Perth fans boo any and all Aboriginals unreservedly now do they ? Give me a spellWe we seated right behind the broncos cheer leaders who had one aboriginal dancer. Around us were heaps of cowboy supporters.

I agree. Never had any real issues with them before 2012, but since then its been vitriolic, and since Buddy came to the Swans, its become feral to put it nicely. The Hawks supporters around me were nothing like they are when we play the Hawks. A long established and accepted fact that racism was a major factor in that, albeit a racism that manifested in booing that extended only to Goodes ( And we all know the reasons why, proud black man shaking up the establishment, many couldn't handle it, booing begins etc) , not to any other aboriginal player in the league. I love how you are able to twist things at your convenience to suit the narrative that suits you. You use it to great effect In your ANZ stadium rants. It's a great skill.Comment
