It's fascinating that there is no strong tie, yet it perpetuates.
What's more interesting is how ignorant the Swans seem to be to their target demographic.
Seems they thing it is 40+ middle aged women with that song choice.
I like the song, well I used to like it. Nothing personal against the song, just seems WAY out of place in a "footy, mate" environment.
You need to market to your demographic, and they aren'tLast edited by Bindo; 11 May 2017, 06:14 PM.Comment

Sorry, but strongly disagree with this! All the people that I know that hate it (and we are all well over 40) are those that endured Neil Diamond the first time around, so that's probably why we are completely over it. And interestingly, most of the women on the L@SS Facebook page who like it are younger with kids at the games. Give me a potty mouth rapper or something at least in the 21st century!!
Teenagers?
20 - 30 year old men?
You may be right, maybe the demographic is worse than I proposed.
Might be 65+ year olds...The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

On The way to the game last week I overheard a pompous teen lecturing his friend about the tradition behind SC
Apparently back when we were the 'North Melbourne Swans' we played on Caroline Oval as our home ground
I wasn't sure whether to laugh at him or take his membership awayComment

Depends where you sit really. Around where we sit on the top deck of Brewongle I reckon the average age is around
60 and it's largely long term members (which is how you get to be sixty, or at very least, feel it). Most would have
had a copy of "Hot August Night" in their proximity at some time in the 70s, they don't mind Neil, but they don't
sing along or take any notice of anyone that is. I'll check around at the next home game and see if anyone can
remember our time as the North Melbourne Swans or has any stories of all those great games we played against
the South Melbourne Kangaroos at Caroline Oval.

As for "Sweet Caroline", keep it with new lyrics. Start by changing "Sweet Caroline" to "We Are The Swans" or "We are Sydney" ...
And bring back the music we used to play after every goal in 1987 but only for homes games against Essendon, just to remind them of the time we kicked 13 goals in a quarter against them to win by 25 goals."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Started the song even later than usual, with the effect of the chorus not being played since the second quarter had started
It can't be that hard co-ordinate the song starting in time for the chorus to be played. Quarter time is a set defined period (5 minutes I believe) so start the timer as soon as the siren goes.Comment

We got that over the top of the footy and then 'horses' later on. Surely we can do betterHe ate more cheese, than time allowedComment
