I was always of the view that Selwood scores a free whenever he is tackled. Thought it was quite amusing to see him angrily remonstrating with the umpire when he was found to be holding the ball courtesy of a McVeigh (?) tackle. He's so used to getting free kicks he simply couldn't believe it. Maybe he just didn't drop his shoulder low enough this time.

I noticed that JPK has perfected how to tackle Selwood without giving away a free. He tackled him a few times but went low and made sure Selwood didnt @@@@ his elbow as he normally does. Selwood was getting pissed off at this and it spilled over with that holding the ball.

If I was a coach of a team i would show my players the JPK tackling technique.

I bet you Selwoods dominace wanes after he doesnt rcieve easy frees.

Wow - what a great win. Driving home on Friday night I had an inkling we would win but put it down to wishful thinking.
I thought the umpires were ok. They made a few mistakes but it evened out over the whole game.

Teddy going forward was a surprise but it worked well. Why not put a seasoned defender in the forward line to nullify the rebound. That has a Brett Kirk signature. Towards the end of his playing career Kirky would often play in the forward line - he kicked a few goals if I recall. They did the same with Jude Bolton towards the end of his career too. Hard nut defenders to keep the ball in the forward line.

To me Naismith was a revelation - he got better as the game wore on and jumped all over the Geelong rucks. If he can stay fit he will quickly form the ruck combo with Tippett. Sinclair is not doing much but I can't see him getting dropped until Tippet comes back in.

I haven't seen the games on TV for a few weeks but I'm surprised by the development of the young guys. Mills is going to be a star, Jones is improving quickly (could do without the tats though).
Papley - Benny McGlynn may have played his last
Aliir - composed and a great athlete. Looking forward to watching him against (free kick) Hawthorn.

I loved JPKs game - he does everything well. I love how he breaks tackles and his own tackles stick.

6 day break and ... Hawthorn. Can we back up again?

On a separate note, Geelong fans are the classiest bunch of all vic based fans. I didn't go on Friday, but i have gone to Kardinia in the past few years and almost all games I was a swan amongst cats and they left me alone and when they did win they offered condolences and praised the swans. On the way to the train station i was with a few swans fans and cats supporters were a contrast to most supporters after a lost.

I just remembered bc of the Goodes comment above my comment, the only club who supported goodes all the way and the only club whos fans showed Goodsey respect last year.

Contrast this to Hawk fans..oh my.

I hate hawk fans so much that if one was getting a flogging i would keep walking and not help or perhaps join in, wouldn't do that to any other clubs fans, thats how much i dispise the hawk fans, the lowest of the low, even surpassing the pies and bombers by a small amount.

I agree, maybe not with the joining in, but the sentiment. I enjoy a Hawks loss as much as a Swans win. Well, except for Friday. What a great win - but now I hear it's because of the bye. I thought we just played better.

And I love the way Naismith throws his weight around - and his second efforts were Mummy-like. We can't drop him - he'll be a challenge for the Hawks while I'm not sure Sinclair will be.

I'm absolutely loving the development of our young players we've brought through this year plus we've got a couple of rookies in Foote and O'Riordan that I think will be very very good.

Agree re Jones, he is pretty much cemented now in the side and he just improves incrementally but you look over the course of the season and he has come on well. Hewett isn't quite the finished product for me and I don't think we can win a flag with him in it at this stage, he just goes missing too much, but he will be a very very good player in years to come. Hope Heeney can get his mojo back but before the dip he was coming along well. And whilst not a rookie any more the improvement in Rampe this season was exactly what we needed from some players, he has gone from the bottom half of our 22 to top 8 in my estimation and he's filled that KPD role in way that has amazed me.

Next year I can see us only bringing a couple in, maybe a young KPD with our first rounder (and we should get a good one there) and upgrading rookies and continuing the great development work we do.

Yes, I also thought that it was a touch ironic, when some in the Geelong crowd were booing a high contact free awarded to Hewett. I would've that they thoroughly agree with that manner of free, what with Selwood in their side?

Yes Geelong were certainly supportive but I don't think they were the only club. Both Richmond and Footscray were great as well (Bob Murphy was fantastic). Adelaide also, and Ross Lyon (though a shame that the team he coaches seems to attract the worst breed of bogan fans).

I pointed this out a week or two ago on here and a few people attacked me about it, but he definitely plays for high tackles. Not a great look but doesnt seem like many have picked up on it yet

But when it came for the club and the fans as a collective to actually take a stand, Geelong was the only team who did.

His first instinct it seems is to look for contact (inside F50) whereas JPK Hannebery and others look to get their arms free to handball. I think he's kicked 10 goals? from set shots atleast half are from free kicks for high contact


When is the Rising star nomination announced for this week? Have a annoying feeling they might give it to Eric Hipwood from Brisbane kicked 4 goals this week

I am glad that nobody here has started a Kieran Jack thread but just watching the last quarter again, gee there is something about Brandon at the moment that almost makes me want to cry. He seems such a sensitive kid and he just looked very sad in the rooms when he joined. Kieran is a bit older and maybe a bit tougher emotionally and better equipped to deal with this situation which I must say doesn't seem like it will be resolved anytime soon if at all.

I know he has been getting some good reviews in the twos but it could be why the Swans have kept him the twos. He's in good hands at the Swans and I'm sure he's getting all the support he needs in what sounds like a terrible family dynamic...

Yeah I noticed it and was really happy the club allowed him to travel down. He was also next to his brothers GF.

Brandon is a millennial, a lot of millennials seem to be a lot more aware about their emotions than previous generations. He is also pretty switched on for a footballer.

I am sure Brandons ideals clash a lot with his fathers old world views. As much as I shouldn't really hold Garry Snrs era to 2016 standards, but can you imagine a very young Garry Jack writing an article in the SMH back in 1982 about domestic violence or current day issues?
