It would just show how biased the league is if that happens, given we got the trade ban for getting Tippett and Franklin whilst losing Mummy, Mal, White, Everitt and not being able to keep Membrey. Who have the Hawks had to lose so far to get Lake, Frawley etc. that was a regular first 22 player apart from Suckling?Comment

Resurrecting this thread, based on that we now know JOM is definitely wanting out.

So the easiest trade, if GC were interested would be a direct swap of Tom for JOM, plus some picks to make up the difference. Based on salary expectations alone, they aren't that far apart, and GC need an in-and-under player like Tom in any case.

Seeing as Tom probably would prefer a club in contention, then perhaps we look at a much more complex trade. There are, as I see it, four clubs with top quality players looking for new homes, and so it may be a four way swap that gets it done.

Call me crazy but how about this (I've coloured the picks to show where they came from):
 1. Freo > GC: trade Fyfe in return for picks 4, 6 (for Prestia) and 18
 2. Hawthorn > Freo: trade Hill and pick 14 (+ possibly another player?) for pick 3
 3. Sydney > Hawthorn trade Mitchell and 2nd rounder, for pick 3
 4. Sydney > GC: trade pick 3 and 18 for JOM

 Who gets what for what:
 Sydney
Lose: picks 18, 2nd rounder, Mitchell
 Gain: JOM
Summary, give up a want-away midfielder with class, for more class and polish whilst in premiership contention

 Hawthorn
 Lose: pick 14 and Hill
 Gain: Mitchell and 2nd rounder
Bolster their aging midfield in return for a want-away speedster

 Freo
 Lose: pick 3 and Fyfe
 Gain: Hill (+another player?) and picks 4, 6, 14, 18
Load up on new talent as they clearly need a rebuild, and gain a very handy speedster to boot

 GC
Lose: JOM and picks 4, 6
 Gain: Fyfe and pick 3
Get an outright gun PLUS a top pick, to go alongside Ablett before he retires. And they can afford Fyfe having lost both Prestia and JOM (and maybe David Swallow next year).

Have i read this correctly? We give up Mitchell, plus a first and second round pick to get O'Meara?

If I have, it seems absolutely over the top. I'm not sure that we would get equal value from even a direct swap, with nothing else included.Comment

Interesting. Even though it has nothing to do with us I would like to see the Dees swap Hogan for Fyfe and picks to make each other happy.
Then again, I don't see Fyfe wanting to move as his family farm is in south west WA isn't it?

They could negotiate a swap of second rounders with Hawthorn. Remember though that Mitchell is out of contract. He could easily go for nothing to Carlton if we are not careful.Comment

This is of course based on the assumptions that Mitchell wants to be traded to return to Melbourne. My understanding is that is not the case and he wants to stay at the club but for better contract. If money is his main objective than the club can treat his case the same they did with Ryan O'Keefe's wish to be traded to Carlton for more money. If he goes to Carlton for nothing, would he be still better paid by them than the Swans?Comment

Fyfe's family's farm is at Lake Grace-more south-east WA. He enjoys being a helicopter pilot, which I suppose you can do anywhere, but WA is particularly suited. He has carefully built Brand Fyfe, and I reckon it has more currency in WA than elsewhere. This lad has had very shrewd advice. He has seen how being a one club player, even in an unsuccessful era, has built Matthew Pavlich's reputation and saleability. I don't thnk Fyfe will leave Fremantle.Interesting. Even though it has nothing to do with us I would like to see the Dees swap Hogan for Fyfe and picks to make each other happy.

I actually think he should stay. He has a level of intensity and durability I love, and he will find more success with us than anyone else I believe. This is of course based on the assumptions that Mitchell wants to be traded to return to Melbourne. He will get what he wants, simply because he is good enough. He will put a big price on his head (say $700k) and a number of Melbourne clubs will pay it. If not Carlton, then Richmond, Collingwood or Hawthorn. Maybe even the Dogs would have a crack. Unlike ROK, who was under-rated, Mitchell does the thing that matters most in Melbourne - get possessions. If he goes for nothing, only we lose out.Comment

I read JOM wants to move to Melbourne as his girlfriend is from here. I also read that GC don't want draft picks as compo - they want an elite player. The only elite player that might leave the Swans is Mitchell and he wouldn't want go to the GC.

Can't see JOM landing in Sydney.Comment
