If Nankervis goes I would offer a lifeline to Zac Clark who is a free agent. He seems to cause us trouble every time we play Freo.

I think we will keep X if we have the money
i know Davis has a lot of potential and so does Talia but i feel given that AA and Reid have been quite injury prone the last few years and I think X has a versatile role to play with in the team
we got him this far and i think he has a lot more to offer and would be a steal for the Doggies line up
Grundy has one or two years more in him even though he is killing it now we have all see what happens to big specimens once they hit that 32yrs of age hey really loose that yard of speed off the mark and it hurts them"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I guess if you're some of he younger players who have been sitting on the list for a few years, you may second guess things if you see Heeney, Mills and Papley all sprinting past you.The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

There's a review of Lewis Melican on the Swans' website. It sounds like he's staying for another year. This would mean that we need 3 senior spots for Papley, Newman and Foote (as Melican will be the 3rd year rookie).
It seems to me that Hiscox gets delisted and we trade 2 more players in order to get 4 live picks. Towers is likely to be one and Nankervis the other. I think we would pull the plug on Tippett if someone would take his salary, but this is unlikely.
I wouldn't be interested in trading our picks 14 and 17 for picks 5 or 6, which would likely get you either Ainsworth or Tarranto. Both are good players, but not so much better than other players likely to be available in the the mid teens - Berry, Witherden, Venables to name a few. Two of those seem better than one of Ainsworth or Tarranto.
I would also have BJ, Robinson and Marsh on the trade table, mainly because I think they will struggle to get senior time, although I can't see any interest in them from other clubs.
1. X Richards is going
2. Toby Nankervis is going
3. We have retired Teddy Richards, Beeny McGlinn & Tom Derrickx. We delisted Kyle Galloway. That makes 5 senior spots and one Rookie spot.
4. Towers isn't going anywhere yet. It is Tuesday night and the trading finishes on Wednesday midnight. If his management were looking for another club they are leaving it pretty damn late. I know Nanka only announced today he is looking for a trade but can't see anyone announcing they are looking for a trade, without a destination club, on Wednesday.
5.who says those players will go at those numbers? It is up to the club who they spend their numbered pick on so we can take whoever suits us no matter the number we get.
6. I watched Dan Robinson in action in the first two games of the season and he was really good. I think he was close to being a regular. I think you do him a disservice. Marsh should have played in a GF. He was more than serviceable for us in the games he played. I'd rather have had a fit Marsh out there than an unfit Macca or Mills. In fact I would have had him ahead of Macca purely on Macca's GWS form. It was abysmal. BJ you might be right but he played pretty well in the Twos ad was close on several occasions. But the other two sorry.Comment

Well the club will be taking the slow route with some of the players.
Mitchell is a good case in point.
Players may well be of the thinking that they can get there a lot faster if they get a regular run.

I was surprised by this news, in particular the premise that a club would trade him. But I am also not particularly disappointed by it, he was mostly poor in the finals and won't have too much opportunity to develop in the seniors if Reid is fit. I am not sure he has the temperament for it.
His (selection and) departure does highlight the dearth in tall forward stocks. It will be hard to cover Reid if he is injured again next year. Richards aside, there were no listed tall forwards playing reserves this year (unless you count Rose).
What's Dawson a white rabbit? Abe Davis a ghost? Even though Davis is playing back he can play anywhere. Been going through the NEAFL streams and there are some really good players out on the park. some of them quite big. We also have a couple of Academy boys who are looking pretty good. Ned Reinhardt is a tall forward who could develop. He kicked 6 in a reserves match last season against the Lions. Matt Wilson is a small/medium forward who is dangerous around goal, he kickec 5 against the Suns. I think we will be fine for now and if we draft another tall forward it will probably be in next year's draft. Reid, Dawson & Davis will be ok for now, add Reinhardt & Wilson to the Rookie List or maybe Reinhardt as a late pick to the main list and those stocks of forwards are even better. we are not short of good smalls in the reserves either, young Sam Murray is coming along very nicely thank you very much.Comment

This is the thing about grapevines they should be used for growing grapes. Tip is here to stay. No rumour is going to get him to Melbourne no matter how much the Melbourne faithful pray, put pins in Voodoo Dolls, or get pissed on the fruit of the vine. I think that is more to the point, the person who heard this rumour heard it from a person who had imbibed more fruit of the vine than is healthy for good sensibility or sentience.Comment

It's more likely that Newman and Rose get senior spots with Jones, Mills, Heeney and Hewett seeing more midfield time. I also think Foote may move past Robinson this year in the pecking order. Saying that, Robinson is a handy player and his injury was a serious setback for him. He seems to be well liked by the coaching staff, so he could push for senior selection with a strong preseason.
My smokie is still Abe Davis. I think he was very close this year & next year he will be better.Comment

With the season over, the draft order is firming up. Cal Twomey is usually not far off and others seem to agree with him, especially for the top 10. I posted a link to Cal Twomey latest phantom draft. There are a group of players in the range of our 1st 2 picks that seem to fit our needs, which I believe are pace and skills. Names thrown out are Simpkin, Gallucci, Berry, Venables, Florent and Witherden. Richmond will be handing over pick 6 to GC in the Prestia trade, so there's not much we have to offer them for pick 6 anyway. Ainsworth or Tarranto will likely go around that number. I like Ainsworth, but would prefer Berry and Gallucci instead. There's only a small drop in quality if any at all, and 2 is better than 1.
I think Hiscox will be delisted. It's hard to see where he can raise his game to AFL level after 2 years of trying.
It may seem a bit harsh to think that Robinson and Marsh should be up for trade. It is just that they are at an age in their careers where they need to establish themselves. Although both played reasonably well in the senior squad this year I feel that others coming through will pass them by and they will find themselves on the fringes again at 2017 season's end. The players we will draft with our 1st round picks this year are also likely to be better players than those 2, pushing them further down the order. It's similar to XR. He can see that he only get's to play when other players are injured, so he would prefer to get a crack at a club that sees him in their starting 22. Nobody wants to be a 'depth' player in their early 20s. They want to make their mark now.
The same goes for Towers, with even more urgency because of his age.
All these players will make a fair go at making the best 22 at several clubs, but not the Swans. It's better for all parties to face the inevitable for everyone's benefit.
This is just my rating of these players and others may see it differently. I wouldn't be surprised to see Robinson having a good AFL career, like Biggs has done at WB.Comment

Newman is being elevated to the senior list. Rose is already there. I agree re Robbo he is well liked by the players too and a local boy. Like Naismith, Heens, Mills etc he grew up barracking for the Swans. He is a more than handy player. Have a look at the first two games. Wow we were good and even better with Dan Robinson. Agree re Foote he is a hard not and a very good mid. I also like Jordan Dawson. He played some very good games in the Twos. He is that third tall that Reid would be if he is ever fit. Very mobile and kicks 75 metres. Dawson's 60 metre passes are sensational. What's more he doesn't miss too many goals and is probably one of the best set shots for goal I have ever seen.
My smokie is still Abe Davis. I think he was very close this year & next year he will be better.Comment

i fear Newman is one of those players that looks like he has so much time as a play maker in ressies
BUT
when you play Snrs and AA, Rampe and Jones are the attacking backs what is your role ?
a man on man role which i think Newman would not be able to do effectively week in week out against the best mid to small forwards
exhibit A - Rioli, Bruest, Puopolo who does he man up on ? and he would struggle !!!"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I'm really looking forward to 2017. The continued development of AA, Mills, Heeney, Hewett and Papley is something I'm really looking forward to plus I'm hoping that Newman, O'Riordan, Dawson and Davis also get an opportunity. Plus the fact that we will be recruiting three very good youngsters at the ND.
I can see us staying the course with our young list until 2018 when we'll get an injection of cap space with Tippett leaving plus the continued increase in the capComment
