November 25th?? I've been tracking this thread to get some insights from you lot who seem to know what you're talking about, now I've just thought to check the date of the draft and realised it's still a month away!! How are you going to keep up the momentum?

Apparently XR is coming back to the Swans with his tail between his legs hoping to take up the offer that he was originally offered.

He hasn't been cut yet, just not offered a contract.Comment

Like me, many will drift off until Feb next year.
The draft is kinda boring for me as most of the players are just prospects. Some great prospects like Heeney and Mills and others more of a gamble, like Papley.
Until they start to play in red & white the new guys aren't really anything to me. I have no idea what Newman, Melican etc play like until they play seniors.
So we'll pick up a few kids in the draft and training will resume.
Moving on to the Big Bash for the summerThe difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

XR should be begging to horse for a spot on this high quality list. I am a bit surprised a club like north or Richmond that are full of crabs did not take a punt on a bloke from such a quality establishment.....Comment

I think that Xav and the club probably had a pretty open dialogue in that Xav felt the offer was below market and was given permission to go and test the water with the knowledge that he and the club could have another conversation should he not get an offer.
Xav will know if someone will come in for him in the PSD I expect so in the absence of such an offer I get he has a serious decision to make about how much he really wants to make a career as an AFL footballer. Certainly we run a tight ship that rewards our A listers well but the list players get a much more modest deal, it's a very incentive based system and Xav really hasn't done enough to warrant a juicy pay deal yet. Mitchell leaving may allow the club to up the offer ever so slightly but I'd expect the club's initial offer will remain essentially unchanged.
If I was Xav I'd take a one year deal and re-assess the situation in 12 months time.Comment

If Xav and Dean re-sign, and I get the feeling we want them to stay but on pretty modest terms, then we'll only have six out - TomD, TomM, Ted, Ben, Nanka and Jack. That's only six - to keep the list at 38 and with four picks that means only two upgrades. Do we only upgrade Papley and Newman and keep Marsh on the rookie list with the knowledge he'll be upgraded for the first half of the season with AJ's spot? Do we prepare to let Jake Brown pass to another club or do we make him the 39th on the list? Are we prepared to use Pick 49 for Ben Davis?
So many questions to ponderComment

On the subject of the draft and who we should pick:
* I didn't realise that as recently as June no less than Emma Quayle was rating Todd Marshall as a potential No. 1 pick: AFL draft: Who wants to be the No. 1 draft pick?!
* If Freo were to take English then it seems there is some prospect that SPS might be available at our pick. He could be a great fit - has pace to burn, great kick on both feet and is unselfish which fits with our needs beautifully. Too bad about the 'go home' issues.
* It's really hard to know exactly who is going to be available to us at pick 9 but looks like one way or another we are going to have some elite players to choose between. Cal Twomey rated Logue the 14th best player in his October Phantom Form Guide. At worst, our pick will be pushed out to pick 11 (or 8th if you exclude Bowes, Setterfield and Perryman). That means we should have a choice of 4+ players rated at least as good as Logue, and a real chance of one of the players Cal rated in the top 8.
* If we want a KPP with pick 19 and Marshall is gone, options include Battle and Kerr (KPFs) and Cox and Rotham (KPDs). However, I reckon we pretty much just go with best available talent with our picks 9 and 19 which is what we have said we will do and what I expect we will do.
I hope that Freo take English because I reckon Gold Coast would have a real nibble at SPS, I'd pass on him myself as he sounds high maintenance and also apparently goes missing a bit in games.
Pick 19 should still see a quality player available. I think we'll probably just go with the best available and given this is rated as a very heavy draft for midfielders I would not at all be surprised to see us go for two mids with 9 and 19 but if Logue is available at 9 I think he'll just be too good to knock back but I still reckon he's a strong chance for the SunsComment

X won't get game time unless injuries strike
if injuries strike will X be able to get traded >?
No.
i do believe this was his window to get traded but it didn't happen
Plan B - stay with the Swans or move thru the next draft and hope that a 2018 contract will look good with another club"be tough, only when it gets tough"

As far as I am aware the only players out of contract are Hiscox, Towers and Xav so unless we pay someone out (which we won't) then it really has to come from these threeComment

BJ is contracted so going no where. The other delisting will be Hiscox IMO, has shown the least of the out of contract players and isn't even depth quality despite the strange debut this year.
Only Papley and Newman to be upgraded, Marsh will stay on as a rookie.
Ressie watchers, Abe Davis, does he suffer from being asked to perform so many different roles from game to game? Is it time we tried him as just a fwd, a back or a midfielder to see if he can get consistency and develop into senior standard?Comment
