I'm well and truly stunned by Abe's delisting. Something doesn't seem right there. Maybe they thought he was a bit too casual in the way he went about things, or they asked him to shed a few kilos, but didn't. I think on talent alone he had a bright future, so suspect there was something more to it than meets the eye.Comment

Hiscox and Richards understandable but really like Abe unlucky.
Abe has gained alot of weight in only two years at the swans not muscle but just weight.
How big is our list now?
We'll definitely be looking to draft a KPP player with our pick in the 40s now.Last edited by Levii3; 27 October 2016, 03:55 PM.Comment

so 9 players out ?
maybe Davis to come back in?
PRIORITY immediate:
i) need another ruck minimum
ii) over the years given we have primarily not bought Key defenders in as expensive recruits I am guessing we have our eyes on a senior player like Talia to take over Grundys role in 2018/19 ??"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Assuming we keep the same number on the senior list
8 out from the senior list, most likely 4 draft picks - 9, 19, 46, 49. I very much doubt we will utilise the next pick at 93.
So possibly 4 rookie promotions - Papley, Newman are definites. Foote, Marsh and O'Riordan all have claims to get promoted.Comment

We are losing 3 ruckmen plus talls in Ted and Abe. With KT, Sinclair and NS all a bit injury susceptible, the Reserves will need more than a rookie ruckman to carry them through so maybe we will look at Minson or Clarke (or other ruckmen looking for a home). I wonder if Daniel Currie would like to come full circle?Comment

We need someone who can step in if we get an injury or two to Naismith, Tippett or Sinclair. Chances are that at least one of them will be injured at any given time which would leave our reserves ruck-less.Comment

We had 38 on the senior list this year, we now have 30 so need to find 8 new players.
The first four draft picks are a given, now 34. Papley and Newman have senior contracts for 2017+, now 36. So the last two places will be a combination of Foote upgraded/Marsh upgraded/DFA/late pick likely to end up around late 60s just after Hawks first pick!
No need to upgrade O'Riordan at this stage as he is a Cat B rookie.
If we are taking a ruckman on a one year deal it won't be Petrie who isn't really a ruckman and was washed up last year let alone this year or next year!Comment

I don't think we need another AFL ready ruckman. 3 are more than enough, plus we have Reid and Aliir who can play 2nd ruck. That's more ruck coverage than most clubs. We could get a developing ruckman and perhaps use pick 49 or our 1st rookie pick for that purpose.
There was as story earlier that we might be interested in Shaun Edwards. He's only 22 and might be worth a go if we think he can progress in our development environment. We've been very successful having only 1 rookie delisting this year. I wouldn't be interested in older players who will only be filling spots in our reserves. There's no one delisted, even Barlow, who would be in our starting 22 when everyone is fit.
I think Harry Marsh did okay when he came in this year, but still see Laidler ahead of him. I think Newman moves ahead of his as well and probably COR will too sometime next year. So it's hard to see a long term future for Marsh at the Swans unless he can develop into a more dynamic player. I would keep him on the rookie list another year. COR, on the other hand looks to be a player who can impact games and would elevate him ahead of Marsh if I had to choose between them.
With the latest delistings it's looking even more likely that we will go for either Logue or Berry with our first selection in the draft, unless by some miracle Taranto is still available.
. . . . . .
Just read that Nick Malceski has retired. He was one of my favourites and a key part our 2012 premiership. I'm sure someone will start a separate thread. As for the implications related to the draft, I think it becomes a bit more likely now that Gold Coast will take either Scrimshaw or Berry at pick 8. Maybe this opens the door slightly for Taranto to be there at our pick, but still think Logue is looking most likely.Comment

I wonder if there's a DFA from another club that the Swans have their eye on. I wouldn't mind them looking at someone like Clancee Pearce from Freo. I didn't follow Freo's fortunes closely enough this year to know why he fell out of favour, but he's not that old and is capable of adding some grunt and aggro to the backline. He probably wouldn't slot into the best 22 but could be very handy as a player just outside the best 22 (especially if Mills is expected to graduate into the midfield as early as 2017).Comment
