Sorry if this has already been posted but what is the actual number of rookie players that would be allowable on the club list? I am assuming that there will be 38 on the senior list.

I thought Tippets contract was front loaded so the longer he stays the smaller the problem. Didn't this compliment Buddy's which was the other way around.Think we've done this to death. The only sense in doing this is if

 (a) We are paying Tippo overs (which I suspect we are but we don't know the terms of his new deal); AND
 (b) Another club will take on his contract in full.

Any trade would see us continuing to pay any overs unless we can find someone that needs him more than us - the only club I thought might be tempted to have a nibble was Gold Coast but they clearly weren't interested . I think he does a good job as a first ruckman that can go forward and I suspect we're stuck with him.

Mills, Papley, Allir and Naismith come off contract at the end of 2018 which is also the end of Tippett's deal so you'd hope we'll be OK there.

All things considered I think we have managed the Buddy/Tippett Cap squeeze well. Within a couple of years there'll be a number of players on Buddy's salary, if not more, so Buddy's impact alone shouldn't be a major issueComment

I also thought it was front loaded.

This from a report by Emma Quayle - Age 21/11/2012.

"It has been revealed that Sydney's pitch to Tippett included payments of $700,000 for next year and $900,000 for 2014, before improving to $975,000 for seasons 2015 and 2016. The two-year extension would be triggered, worth just under $2 million, if the former Adelaide full-forward played 20 games in each of the first four seasons."

The extension was triggered in Feb this year.

It would be interesting to see if there are other incentives to achieve so he gets the full contract payment.

I am still waiting to see what the new TPP amount will be, this should mean we have some extra bikkies to pay those coming out of contract next year.spriteComment

An alternative (to Cal Twomey's) form guide to the top of the draft is from foxsports here: Home | Live Scores & Latest News | Fox Sports. Some interesting points and differences: Tim English and Griffin Logue rated 14 and 15 respectively (instead of 11 and 14); Brodie slips to 8; Venables climbs to 11; Todd Marshall still rated top 12; Scrimshaw still top 10; Battle still around 20. Scheer rated higher and Dylan Clarke comes into top 20 but not in Cal Twomey's top 30.

If Brodie does slip to our pick, we'd surely have to pounce on him. Could be the perfect guy to groom as JPK's successor - another big bodied mid. Not as exciting as a quick and classy outside mid would be though.

Would we think about Scrimshaw? Nobody has been mentioning him, presumably because, despite his height he is not considered KPP material. However, he is rated just around our pick. A third tall defender with a good kick to set up rebound out of defence would have Newman (and Marsh) looking over his (their) shoulder(s). Probably not a high priority for us in terms of need for that reason (especially with Talia and AJ also on the books). We'd be much better off getting a proper KPP if we go down that path.

If we are thinking of using our pick 9 for Simpkin, we would appear to be rating a lot higher than other experts and recruiters. However, could be a great choice at pick 19. Personally, I think we'll just get the best talent available (albeit in our reckoning not Cal Twomey or whoever's).All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001) Comment

It's funny with the extension in that it was triggered after only 3 years and he only played 20 games in 2015. It looks like someone has her revelations wrong.I also thought it was front loaded.

Brodie will be ready to play next season, so it's too early to be looking for a JPK replacement. He's a very good player, nonetheless, with more pace than JPK, and it will he a hard one to pass up if available. I would say the same about Taranto.

Scrimshaw is an interesting one. Some say he's another Bontempelli but with pace. I worry about his light frame and that he has a lot of the same attributes as Andrejs Everitt, who also went early in the 1st round.

Players like Logue, Taranto and Berry look safe bets. I don't think we want to get this one wrong.

Jy Simpkin is definitely on the radar, but probably not at pick 9. He would be one of the top choices if available at pick 19.

There are several highly rated players that have dropped down the pecking order because of injuries:

Witherden, broken leg, but seems okay now
Simpkin, broken leg, seems okay, but has taken a bit longer to heal
 Venables, multiple injuries
SPS, was slow to get back to form after a hamstring injury, but had a good all star game
Berry, multiple minor injuries, but came good at the end and had a great combineLast edited by Ludwig; 31 October 2016, 01:58 PM.Comment

I don't see how the 20 games a year for the first four years trigger could have been pulled when he was suspended for the first 11 games of his Swans career.I also thought it was front loaded.

it was reported...... massively front loaded to ensure no other teams would pick him up in the player Draft

 anyway none of really know

the papers love to inflate contracts so we argue over value

either way the Swans have always shown prudent management and have always gone for big key forwards and still shown a great capacity to make the top 8 for over a decade now"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I think that Logue is the one we traded up for. Simpkin should still be available at our pick 19.

Having Aliir and Logue playing on the half back would give us some real venom allowing us to rebound more quickly catching the opposition out of position more often. Logue playing in the backline would also allow one of Mills and/or Rampe to play more midfield time. If we can get Logue with our first pick we will be looking good because there are several players with speed and foot skills available at around pick 19. I personally like Simpkin and Florent.Comment

I watched a bit of the TAC GF and Scrimshaw was one who caught my eye. Very good disposal (ala Malceski). I think he would be a good pick but not sure at our first pick.An alternative (to Cal Twomey's) form guide to the top of the draft is from foxsports here: Home | Live Scores & Latest News | Fox Sports.
