Thanks, ugg. Always to the point.

Is the rule that if nobody takes academy nominated players in the ND we are guaranteed access to them in the rookie draft? Could you tell us a bit about each of them? I didn't watch a lot of NEAFL this year and always struggle to keep up with who the top-ups are because I don't generally know their numbers. I think Reinhard kicked quite a lot of goals for us and a few people on RWO are talking about Brown as being the one we are most likely to select. I seem to remember Wilson did well but I can't remember anything about him now. The rest are simply familiar names but I can't picture them or tell you anything about them. Do you reckon we'll be mostly looking to select them as rookies? If nobody else picks any of them, which of them and how many of them do you think we might take?

They were all regulars or semi-regulars for our NEAFL team.

Baron-Hay - key position player, played mostly in defence for us and did well late in the season when we had listed key talls out
Brown - midfield, half back.
Hebron - utility, mainly played in defence and won recognition for some of his defensive jobs but also versatile and mobile enough to play in the midfield.
McFadden - utility, utilised in the midfield and across half forward. Brave and hard at it.
Reinhard - key forward and pinch hitting ruckman. Very mobile for his size and kicked a few bags earlier in the year.
Wilson - small forward who led our NEAFL goal kicking.

"It has been revealed that Sydney's pitch to Tippett included payments of $700,000 for next year and $900,000 for 2014, before improving to $975,000 for seasons 2015 and 2016. The two-year extension would be triggered, worth just under $2 million, if the former Adelaide full-forward played 20 games in each of the first four seasons."

He only played 12 in 2013, 14 in 2014 and 17 in 2016. How does that trigger the extension?

The nominees are a decent group of top up players, but sadly pathetic compared to the other academies this year, particularly GWS and GC.

Jake Brown is the only one with enough potential to deserve a rookie spot. Maybe Matt Wilson is worth a go, but is a long shot at best. I can't see any of the others reaching AFL level.

One of the problems is that the Swans have such a strong young list that it will be nearly impossible for them to ever get a chance at an AFL game and would be dropped from the list before ever getting an honest go.

It's hard to believe the Swans would extend his contract for 2 years at 1 mill a year on what he's produced so far.

It's funny with the extension in that it was triggered after only 3 years and he only played 20 games in 2015. It looks like someone has her revelations wrong.

Brodie will be ready to play next season, so it's too early to be looking for a JPK replacement. He's a very good player, nonetheless, with more pace than JPK, and it will he a hard one to pass up if available. I would say the same about Taranto.

Scrimshaw is an interesting one. Some say he's another Bontempelli but with pace. I worry about his light frame and that he has a lot of the same attributes as Andrejs Everitt, who also went early in the 1st round.

Players like Logue, Taranto and Berry look safe bets. I don't think we want to get this one wrong.

Jy Simpkin is definitely on the radar, but probably not at pick 9. He would be one of the top choices if available at pick 19.

There are several highly rated players that have dropped down the pecking order because of injuries:

Witherden, broken leg, but seems okay now
Simpkin, broken leg, seems okay, but has taken a bit longer to heal
Venables, multiple injuries
SPS, was slow to get back to form after a hamstring injury, but had a good all star game
Berry, multiple minor injuries, but came good at the end and had a great combine

Brodie won't be there at 9, but it is interesting if there is a bid on GC or GWS player.

That could move us up the draft big time, and there will be some tasty picks for sure.

GC has picks 4,6,8,10; and already have a good spine and many good mids.

They may even accept the inevitable of Ablett moving back and getting some compo next year.

GC may use two of its early picks to get Bowes, it is that strong in this draft.

That would move us up, almost within range of Brodie.

Another alternative is that they don't match any bid on Bowes, but use all their bids on getting several players; unlikely but a possibility.

Logan can play midfield, he did this at the end of the season, so he be the JPK replacement.

JPK could move forward, where we do have a weakness; we only have buddy and not much else.

This will be an interesting draft; 9 is a lot better than 14; we will get a quality player ready to start first game next year.

If there was a trigger clause, the Swans wouldn't have a choice, they'd be contractually obliged to honour it. But he hasn't played enough games to trigger the extension Emma Quayle outlined, so potentially isn't going to be paid nearly $1 million a year. And if the trigger was 20 games a year, he'd have known he was going to miss in his first year due to suspension, so potentially they came up with a new arrangement. You would hope that the Swans weren't stupid enough to lock themselves into having to pay him $1m a year based on playing so few games.

I'm concerned someone might come after him as a free agent next year

the two players targeted in big matches last few seasons have been Kennedy vs GWS and Hannes most finals games

coaches know if they take 25% out of their sails that is significant to help towards a win primarily because they are such critical players for the Bloods style of footy to be effective

JPK could move forward, where we do have a weakness; we only have buddy and not much else.

JPK is the best contested ball winner in the game. He finished 1st in CPs last year, and 3 of the last 5 years, finishing 2nd the other 2.

If you have Buddy in your forward line you don't need much else. The problem is how to get the other forwards more involved to take some of the attention off Buddy. That said, we do have Tippo, Reid, Rohan, Papley and Heeney to fill out the forward line, which ain't bad.

I wouldn't be surprised if we drafted a goal kicking outside midfielder, like Simpkin, Gallucci or Hayward with our 2nd pick to add to the forward mix.
