Florent won't be there at 19, or what will eventually be 21.

I'm happy to take him at 9 (10/11) because he is exactly what we need, Brodie would basically just replace Mitchell.

In a way I'm happy with the late mail that Logue will be well gone by our pick, means we can get the best outside mid still available then look at what we do next. I'd prefer two outside mids first then take KP players in the 40s.

The exciting thing about Logue is that he's faster and has the same endurance as Florent and could become a midfielder, not sure that his skills are as good though.

Given Logue looks almost certain to be gone before our pick I am now leaning toward Brodie. Tough as nails big bodied midfielders are what the Swans like and are very useful on the SCG. We can always add a quick outside runner with a later pick.

Worse defeats for the year were by teams with lots of outside run, that means we need to find outside runners with SKILLS!

First two picks should be that type of player although going forward I like the idea of Jones playing as an outside mid although that would be an outside mid with grunt! I love his raging bull style which is so suited to midfield, hopefully Newman & O'Riordan step up to fill the back flanks to release Jones.

I really don't think we need another slowish, inside midfielder, with average kicking skills. Besides, didn't Tom Mitchell actually play more on the outside than the inside, it's just that because he was slow and had average kicking skills, everyone thought he was an inside midfielder?

I think we all want tough, ball-winning players who are also quick and skillful so can play as a great outside player.

If you want all that, you probably need the No.1 pick - and even then many years you still won't get the ideal player who does everything brilliantly.

Tom Mitchell played mostly on the outside because we already had a strong contingent of inside mids, including JPK, the best contested ball winner in the comp. At Hawthorn, he will be an inside midfielder.

It's worth noting that Brodie has good pace. He runs a 20 m. sprint in under 3 seconds, has a good leap and is a good contested mark. He is also quite agile. So he is different from Mitchell in that respect. But he is still a natural inside midfielder and he should be a very good one.

I agree with you that we should be looking to get a more natural outside player who is elusive and can hit up that final target inside 50. That's something we are missing. Simpkin and Florent fit in that category.

If we do get one of these 2 players with our first pick, I wouldn't mind going for a different type, even a KPP, with our second pick. It's mostly a matter of being able to provide starting team opportunities for players. We don't want to have a 1st round pick who can't make it out of the reserves for us, but will be getting contract offers from other clubs as soon as he's out of contract. We still need to find opportunities for promising players already on our list.

I just don't want to hear us call out the name Tim English or Luke Ryan in with our first 2 picks.

I'm a big fan of Tony Olango. He will be in our ressies for a good 3 years, but could emerge one of the best ruckmen in the league. I would take him with our last pick in the ND.

Top six looking settled except for the order, assuming Setterfield gets a bid from GC or Carlton when he should. So Setterfield, McCluggage, McGrath, Ainsworth, Taranto, Petrevski-Seton.

The lottery starts after that with four more players to be taken before our pick which will become pick 10. Logue now appears likely to go to GC or Freo, three more players to be taken before us. Hopefully one of them is Bowes meaning only two players taken before our pick but which two will be crossed off our draft board?

Sometimes you can get most of that with the number 18 pick (or the number 3 pick) - ok, so not express speed maybe, but just about quick enough by foot and certainly quick enough by mind.

For Logue to get to us a couple of things need to happen.

A bid on Bowes by Carlton or Brisbane, Freo bidding for English, or the Gold Coast wanting mids and English.

Freo has Fyfe and Neale, but need a tap ruckman as Sandilands is almost going to retire and their backups are truely second rate.

Gold Coast need mids; Garry Ablett has two year a most left at the top flight, and with jaeger o'meara and Prestia gone, Swallow always injury, they need quality ASAP.

Only problem is that Logue is quality, and can play as a mid.

Basically unlikely, but could happen, but i think our ship is sunk when it comes to Logue.

Hoping Scrimshaw is there, good tall midfielder with quality finishing.

Don't understand the hate for English here as he looks a perfect replacement for Tippett in a couple of years while Logue would be a third tall defender falling behind Rampe, Talia, Laidler, Johnson, Marsh, Reid, Melican , Newman, O'Connor and Rohan in the pecking order. He is not tall enough to replace Grundy or Aliir as a key defender unless he grows some more. He looks a great prospect but defenders are not what the Swans are short of. We also have heaps of small defenders in Mills, Jones, Smith, Cunningham, LLoyd and McVeigh. Logue is supposedly 191cm and I have used 188cm as the cutoff for calling a player a tall. English is listed at 204cm which is tall enough to play in a key position as well as ruck.
