Sandy Dragons had 6 of the top 11 picks.. Should maybe look at their coach for some role in our academy he's doing something.

Very happy with that. Florent is a real talent who will exceed his U18 performances, Hayward touted top 10 bolter to us at 21 is a bargain and can play, Maibaum a strong defender to be schooled by Reg, and the big mature ruck in the hands of the ruck whisperer could be anything.

Well done KB & crew, made me very happy.

So Hawks draft Mitchell Lewis at pick 76... missing someone already?
He ate more cheese, than time allowed

With such a strong draft, a number of clubs did very well.
          • The Giants didn't need any help, but adding Taranto, Setterfield and Perryman to their midfield is pretty scary. How will they fit them all in?
          • With 4 top 10 picks GC had to do well. They could move up the ladder very quickly.
          • Brisbane had a very solid draft and should be more competitive sooner than expected.
          • Freo took 3 defenders and a ruckman. What will they do when Mundy retires and if they lose Fyfe. But Logue should be able to play in the midfield.
          • Geelong: What are they doing? Stephen Wells is supposed to be a draft genius. Let's see?
          • A solid draft for our trading partner Port Adelaide, especially if Todd Marshall works out. I thought they would take Hayward with their 2nd pick, but took SPP, a player I rank highly. We will see who turns out to be the better player in due course.
          • Richmond look to have done well for 3 lowly draft picks in Shai Bolton, Jack Graham and Ryan Garthwaite.
          • The Bulldogs had to take Tim English. They've drafted well in recent years. It's boom or bust with English this year.

Josh Kennedy used to babysit Oliver Florent.

Sandy Dragons mates Tim Taranto, Will Setterfiled and Oliver Florent find themselves in the same town. Likely to house share in Balmain. Looks like an all star midfield under the same roof.

Olango? did he get picked or is he still available for our first pick in the rookie draft?

How we got Oli: Special visit helps Swans land 'mentally tough' Florent - AFL.com.au

Emma Quayle's top 30 write ups. Based on her ratings with our first 2 picks we got players worth 2681 points for picks valued at 2241 for a net gain of 440. Emma is usually very sharp on rating talent, and we've done well by her standards:

                9. Will Hayward
                Forward
                Height: 185cm
                Weight: 77kg

Hayward has nous, energy and plays with a lot of spring and bounce. He stays involved; if he can't quite take a mark he's able to recover and move quickly towards the player the ball falls to so that he can lunge at them, harass them and lay tackles. He covers a lot of ground, uses his speed and spring to take marks and influences games in the most crucial way of all, by kicking goals. He will start out as a forward and is a natural there, but has the capacity to become part of his new club's midfield mix given time.

                13. Oliver Florent
                Midfielder
                Height: 182cm
                Weight: 74kg

Florent had a desperately difficult year, losing his father, and showed remarkable resilience to not only keep going but play better and better as the season went on. A smart and creative but low-possession small forward early on, by the end of the year he proved he was a legitimately good midfielder who is capable of winning his own ball, reacting and moving quickly. He uses the ball with class, creativity and a deft touch. He's slight and does most of his work at ground level but runs hard, moves well in and through traffic, can come up with something special from nowhere and has shown he can cope with incredible stress.

More of a forward-ruck than a first choice ruck? Low HO numbers; high goals and polled when when he pick up a bag.

Great to hear that. There has been talk about Florents flight risk but surely this is reduced if he is living with some mates or if he has mates in the same geographical location.

Surely they wouldn't have drafted him if he wanted to stay in VIC

That's my assumption. If they physically met with his family then you would like to think that the family would be honest with the club And be upfront with their concerns.

At 17/18 your not a baby anymore. I personally think that's a poor excuse for most situations.

I put a link in my previous post to the story about how Longmire met with Oli and his mother to be sure it was fine with them if he came to Sydney. And it was. So he's here. I don't think he's a flight risk. If he tries to run away, JPK will give him a good spanking, just like old times.

On the flight risk issue in relation to Florent I seem to recall from a number of years ago that the Swans decided not to draft Chris Johnson when they had the chance because he desperately wanted to stay in Melbourne. He ended up going to Fitzroy and when they folded onto Brisbane. He ended up a 3 time premiership player for them. So much for home sickness! Micky O was not originally keen on the move to Sydney either. I think we just need to back our ability to make players feel welcome in Sydney and our winning culture.

Home sickness can always be combated with success. These kids need to grow TFU. My occupations separated me from my family in the early days . These guys need to stop being such pussies.
