The operative term was pandering to racism and stupidity. While I haven't watched a lot of The Project, the only person I've seen on that show pandering to racism and stupidity, was Steve Price. Whereas Waleed Aly and Lisa Wilkinson are accomplished presenters, who seem to assume that their audience are intelligent media consumers.
As far as the ABC goes, it is an essential part of Australian culture, that is slowly being worn down by years and years of attacks and funding cuts by obsessive right wingers. Which I find grimly ironic. That is, just how much time, the self-appointed guardians of "our culture" spend attacking our cultural institutions and those who make culture. Scientists, academics, the CSIRO, the BOM, the ABC, actual journalists, actors, musicians, and even sports people with an opinion, none are spared the tedious whining of the talkback and tabloid culture warriors.Comment

The discussion in this thread is threatening to topple over from civilised - even when we have differing opinions and values - into name calling. Please go back and re-read post 353 if you think you might be guilty of this (or ideally regardless, if you intend to continue to post in the thread).

Another perspective. Worth reading.

Which proves my point. Because I'm in the minority I shouldn't post here right? What sort of a thread is this? It's in the general footy chat section, therefore should be open to differing opinions. Maybe RWO should only be open to LWNJs, would that make you happy?

While many in the wider community can defend their ignorance by saying that they never met the man (probably with the addendum "and never want to") I'd expect anyone who has followed the Swans with any enthusiasm over the past 15 years would have had a chance to meet Adam. On the times when I have spoken with him I've found him genuinely nice: a gentle soul who is considerate of others and genuinely interested in what you have to say. My non-footy following wife was awed to meet him the first time and her camera froze (as she did) when I went to take the pic of the two of them. Later in the evening Adam sought her out, remembered her name and made sure she got the photo she wanted. Even if he'd never laced up a football boot I'd be proud to have him represent me as Australian of the Year. Likewise his thoughts on the problems we have with race in our society is far more considered than just about anything I've heard or read elsewhere. I feel he's an Australian elder before his time and I hope we grow into him.Comment

Plus this thread was a bit of a salve to some fans who have felt personally impacted by the events around Adam and the ongoing repercussions.
So yeah, maybe you shouldn't post in this specific thread.Comment

Both sides are just pushing their case......to disagree isn't 'shutting down', censorship or extremism.....it's just disagreeing. This country needs to just chill out a bit on the tribal bull@@@@.Comment

Actually, 80% of Australian’s judge the ABC as trustworthy news source. The other 20 probably vote One Nation, have signed up to Cory Bernardi’s mess or read alternative News Corp.Comment

Ah, no. There is a vast difference. The fact that you can't see it makes it very difficult to engage in discussion. Suffice it to say it's to do with intellectual honesty and a willingness to examine one's assumptions.Comment
