Changes for Preliminary Final V Cats

Looking at Geelong's lineup, they are huge. Scarily huge. 7 guys 195cm or taller. 3 in the forwardline, 3 in the backline monsters. Plus a couple of others who are at 193cm. I just hope our talls create enough of a contest in the forwardline to have the ball going to our opportunistic small forwards and that they are accurate.
How our undersized defence has been so miserly is beyond me, but how will they match up against the Cats' tall timber? A huge group effort.
The mids on both sides look ominous - tough battle. Who tags who on each side?
Our efficiency compared to theirs looks a little worrisome & we need our tackling pressure to be up.
I hope the boys are settled tonight, as I'm sick to my stomach with nerves enough for all of them.
Good luck everyone!Comment

Has any team won a major final with 6 missing from their 22 ? Ie these 6 would have started season 2016 in our best 22Last edited by Auntie.Gerald; 23 September 2016, 07:43 AM."be tough, only when it gets tough"

6 is perhaps a little kind- AJ hasn't played in forever, Sam hasn't been available all year, Talia was good (I thought) in round 1, but not really a 22 lock and Ted can't make the team.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

Ie if all not injured at the beginning of 2016 season they would have been in best 22?
Macca yes
Ted ahead of AA at that stage
Reid yes
Mills yes
AJ if fit and not injured yes
Talia started 2016
Ted is like Bartel not making the finals team"be tough, only when it gets tough"

OMG.
I am SOOOOOOOO nervous.
Hope they took ruthless to Melbourne in the onboard luggage.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

Ted ahead of AA at that stage - we're not at that stage. Right now he's not best 22
Reid yes - who knows. His form may be averager than usual and he may not be getting a run
Mills yes
AJ if fit and not injured yes - who knows, he may have been delisted 2 years ago if playing
Talia started 2016 - man, he's only played one game for the Swans
We have 2 players out as far as I'm concerned, one of them a soldier, and one a star in the makingThe difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

But as someone else said, win the middle and we will win the match. If we can keep the Duckwoods (x2) and Dangerfield on a decent leash, and break about even out of the middle, then I trust our defence to keep their score low enough, and for us to kick a winning score.
Wish I could be at the 'G tonight - I always enjoy Prelim final weekend the most out of any I feel - its a weekend of great hope and huge dreams, especially if the swannies get up and we know there is a trip to Melbourne for the big dance to come!
Come on you mighty Swannies!!!"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Injuries, I am sick of hearing about the Bulldogs and their players they have had out.
I think we have been effected worst than them.
These players (numbers only) have missed games due to injury this year 3,8,10,11,12,14,15,16,18,20,21,25,27,31,32 & 35 you can throw in 2. Some have only been for a week but most have been at least 3 weeks.Comment

Of the other four, Ted IS AVAILABLE, he's just not been selected as AA has gone past him. Tahlia is the great unknown, there is a whole discussion on another thread about delisting him so whilst he may very well have been in the top 22 in the team, he could just as easily be a list clogger by now. AJ hasn't played for four years and whilst we all hope and pray for his recovery, you may as well say Goodsey, O'Keefe, Morton and Shaw are missing from our best 22 as they've all played since AJ last did and Sammy yes probably would be in the team, but seeing as he's missed the whole year you would have to say that his missing out is equalled for Geelong by Thurlow doing his ACL in the NAB cup and missing the whole year.
If we lose tonight we can't blame injury, we will simply have been beaten by a better team - in my opinion we have had a magnificent season none the less.Comment

Yep. Absolutely no excuses tonight. Nothing like 2013 or 2015. Funny that more is being made of our injuries than either of those years.Bloods
