Im pretty sure after their first final they realised they could get away with anything! I wish i could figure out how to post a pic on here, because their was a very funny/justified meme i saw on facebook about the umpiring, which had a lot of suspected dogs supporters very infuriated!

The only good thing that came out of weekend was having a short chat with
Dennis Cometti who was at the same hotel as us. A classy gent.

I just think it's very odd that every Bulldog player can go all game like an energizer bunniy while other teams wilt away. Every club has elite training. Why does this young team suddenly able to finish games so much better than all the rest? As I said, it's not illegal and it's well known in pro cycling already, where they're always up on the latest performance enhancers.

Our bad omen moment was at the parade on Friday. All of the cars the umpires sat atop were adorned with bulldogs coloured balloons. Not some in cars with red and white and some in cars with tri colour, or even one bunch of ours on one side and theirs on the other. No all of their cars were red, blue and white. Both teams had their colours on their cars. Small matter I know, but not a good look.

I'm jealous now. Did you manage to get through the conversation without quoting any famous Cometti lines? Or then walking away thinking, 'farrkk: I got that wrong didn't I'?

Well, yes, and Jordan Lewis is probably the expert on throws that are not picked up by the umpires. Though the main thing that annoys me with Lewis, is the fact that if he's caught with the ball, he will just freeze and wait for the umpire to throw the ball up. There is very rarely any attempt to get rid of the ball, or even any arm flapping, but invariably the umpires run in, seemingly agreeing with Jordan's decision that he really couldn't do anything else and therefore it should be a ball up.

Yes but the AFL logo color is comprised of red, white & blue

I picked up a few throws in the 3rd term from Libba. A few others as well.

There was also a marking contest at the Punt Rd end with Parker, where it looked like he was being held, then appeared to be dragged off the ball. I was up the other end so it was a bit hard to see properly.
In that play where Morris tackled Buddy; prior to that Buddy took a mark and Morris pulled his arms away, not knocked his arms, he pulled then away right in front of the umpire and it was called play on. I was behind the goals at the Ponsford end and had a very clear view of it. The replay confirmed it. Not one commentator has made a comment. Only that Morris was courageous. Give me a spell.

Did however, see it it as a bad sign when K.Jack missed a sitter early in the game.
But should have been 50 metre penalty to Jack.

                            - They threw it a lot. I reckon I yelled 'throw' 4 or 5 times, but there were probably more. Obvious from row N in level 1 on the other side of the ground. The non-calls on those throws spun me out a bit. But the two worst calls were the Jack having his legs taken out and the Rampe HTB. The Jack one was a dagger, because it ended up being a free kick against (and a 50 and a goal, right?).
                            - Summed up my recollections of Xav and Hewett, and you can extrapolate those over the year. I don't think Xav at the moment is clean enough or kicks well enough under pressure to play key forward. Because Hewett does not pass off and is not quick, he tends not to make telling contributions against good sides. Again, his most telling contribution is to draw frees for HTB and high tackle in the forward 50, but that's not going to get you far as a would-be mid.
                            - I thought Buddy himself kicked short a little too often, too. Also, tried that shoulder battering ram thing a bit much. There were times where a quick handball or long kick would have been more damaging. That's said in knowledge his short kicking can be very damaging. I think he tried very hard. His long run to take that mark and then goal in the final quarter was an impressive, memorable play.
                            - Papley's field kicking needs a lot of work, and is a significant flaw in this game. In fact his disposal efficiency outside 50 is poor. He had a nervous day. Bummer.
                            - Only Rampe, Joey, Grundy, and Smith played at their best. Mitchell was good in spells. Lloyd and Heeney OK - the latter not as clean as usual, but at least tried. That's an indictment. Too many players were obviously stuck inside their own heads, thinking about their own performance: Rohan, Xav, Laidler, Benny, Papley.
Don't agree on the last bit Matt. I don't think they were up to it on the big stage. No more so than Rohan who just seemed to have little idea. Is he a front runner. Xav was very ordinary. He had no second efforts. He had a patch of 3 or 4 stats in the 3rd Q I think but otherwise looked lost out there. Laidler is now only a depth player and McGlynn ran out of steam and missed a clutch goal, again. Papley needs to play close to goals and be in a position where he is not kicking to a player. I think in his first season a lot of what he makes mistakes on are pure brain fades, similar to Towers. He taps the footy instead of kicking through when kicking to a player.

Big, "I don't know about that one". Since I've been studying, Metabolism has definitely been my worst subject: so my opinion is only marginally above ignorance.
On one hand, I'm deeply suspicious about the British cycling program. A hundred years of being crap at cycling, being replaced by ten years of world domination. On the other hand, I'm more likely to agree with the dissenting opinion, in the New Scientist article. In that I'm not quite sure how it would work? And also that my Metabolism professor drummed into me that it's lactate, not lactic acid. If I get the time, I'll send her an email, to see what she thinks.
