I'm afraid that X is destined to be a blip on the radar of AFL history. He played his cards like he held a royal flush but in reality he held a pair of 2s. He was poorly advised by his manager on his market value and unless he has an absolute stellar season in the NEAFL he will never play with the big league again. On the other hand, his older brother will long be remembered as a Swans premiership hero, All Australian and Club Life Member. I wonder what Ted thinks about all of this saga?

I wonder if Essendon told him to go play footy somewhere for 12 months to earn a spot on their rookie list. Easier to look good in the NEAFL as opposed to the VFL

Why would you destroy your career because you had a fight with a team mate?? It happens all the time. Maybe he felt certain at least one AFL club would be him up! Very silly!

I spoke to a Sydney Uni player this week who is excited that X is coming to the club and slightly horrified on his behalf that his AFL career may be over. I don't think he was claiming any insider knowledge but he seemed to think that X's manager was to blame for over-inflating X's expectations. He compared many managers to real estate agents (in a way that was intended to reflect unfavourably on both) and he didn't seem to think the managers really care that much about the players they manage. (I daresay it's a bit different if you're a superstar/cash cow.)

And the AFL never questions a "transaction" by a player manager, and nor does the AFL Players Association I suspect. You only had to follow the Pickering issue when he defected from his business partner behind his back, taking a number of players with him to understand that "commission" is king.

I fully agree with the negative feelings about agents of any sort.
However, I think X. is not up to AFL standard - even at the lowest clubs.
(I'm not losing any sleep about his departure. Actually the best I've felt about our list for many years.)

I assume X is studying something at Sydney Uni, and footy for them is a recreation activity for him now.

Maybe when X put in a few hard yards training at Essendon he spent a bit of time with Jobe Watson, who worked it out over a year that footy wasn't everything, and being a barista was. But then worked out that money was everything and decided to play on.

Very sad indeed. Sad for X but also a bit for Teddy and our association with him - Teddy must feel his loyalties strained in two directions with the parting of his brother and his club in sub-optimal circumstances. I would have preferred if Teddy could have left with only happy associations with the Swans. But that's life. I back the club. Even if we hadn't been so vindicated the way it panned out, the fact that we had a salary cap squeeze meant, I guess, that we couldn't afford to pay him more and we were responsible not to attempt it. And, if I back the club, who I fault is X's manager. Didn't do a good job for him one would think. I haven't listened to the interview but I don't suppose they asked Teddy about his views on X's manager's handling of the situation?
