COLLINGWOOD has picked up young Sydney defender Sam Murray.

Sydney traded Murray, its fourth-round selection (No.70 at time of trade) and its future third-round selection to Collingwood for its future second-round selection.

Unfortunately our risk averse coaching panel assessed that his, Murray, run and carry style might effect our defensive pattern or that he doesn't defend enough. Also we have no money as we offered him a poor contract, because we gave McVeigh another contract and now we will have another finals campaign next year and we will play unfit or injured players, and fold like a house of cards this year or the year before that carrying 5 totally ineffective players, McVeigh, Mills, Parker, Tippett and Naismith in 2016 GF leaving us with 17 players, hard to win. Marsh and Nankervis (Reid not match fit) was totally fit.

Oh well done now, at least it was better than the 3 pick upgrade in the 4th round type deal that we usually end up with

Now we just need the Pies to tank again and us to be Premiers!

We did very well with the Sam Murray trade. We will probably get a pick in 20s next year for a pick in the 50s. That's a big jump and is much better than what you see going down in trades this year.

I thought Murray has shown good progress and has potential with his pace and long kicking, but I would rate him among the bottom few players on our list. We don't want to lose players, but he's not in our best 35 players, so he would have to jump over a lot of players to get a shot at playing senior footy for us.

A good deal. All the best to Sam.

Isn't next years draft expected to be a ripper? We've given up a pick we wouldn't use this year and advanced our position next year by you'd think more than 18 places.

I staggered people are talking about Biggs like he was something special.
He turns the ball over regularly.
Has played some ok football with the bulldogs but he won't be a 200 game player
Nank hurts but apart from that i don't think we have had a lot of fringe players go elsewhere and dominate

                This from the AFL website:

                Instant analysis: Murray to Magpies
The 20-year-old was picked up in the 2015 rookie draft at No.66 by Sydney but has yet to make his debut. By giving up a package of Murray, a fourth-round selection and a third-round pick from next year, the Swans nabbed Collingwood's second-round pick from 2018.

This looks like a big win for Sydney. Collingwood could easily fall in the bottom six next year, which would mean that second-round selection lands at around No.20-25. The Magpies seemingly have a lot of faith that Murray, a skilful and speedy backman, will come good

Happy for Sam and a seemingly good deal.

Shows the 'system' is working, in that a fringe player from a top team is traded to a lowly team with the promise of better career prospects. Pretty simple really.

                  I wish him well.

PS one to add to the Fantasy watch list for 2018 too.

Well done to Sam. Be a better player than Jessie White was for the wobbles... not hard to do.
I hope he gets 200 games.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

The pies don't have a forward line and are missing at least two key backmen.

I am stun that they would even want a rookie backman from us, no matter what the the upside.

They are not fixing the gaping holes in their list; and with Pendles slowing down, where will the improvement come from???

They will finish in the bottom four, so that means a pick to us in the 20 - 24 range.

With the strength of next year draft, that is a huge win for us.

That and Bucks' new contract are two more reasons to hope that 2018 is a total Barry Crocker for the Pies.
