Yep. His on and off field conduct needed to be impeccable this year. Most of us are only privy to on-field form and it's been middling at best.

And the somewhat unheralded emergence of Melican who just impresses me more every time I see him play, there's something about that kid that is just very impressive.

Our list looks really good at the moment. Pre-season next year will be a big one - we'll have Aliir, AJ, Dawson, Florent, Maibaum and Cameron will all be giving it everything to break into the senior team. Brilliant situation to be in.

I agree about Melican Mug - every time I watch him play live, I see something more about him - he is looking all the goods to be a super player for us in time.

The depth is looking really good at the moment - some really decent guys coming through and I have no doubt AJ will push hard to return to seniors after a full pre-season.

I clarify this post in advance with the view I regard it as almost impossible but the hypotheticals intrigue me.

I have no idea how reputable Sporting News are but they are floating the possibility that we trade Buddy out to a WA club (Freo is implied very strongly) and that we get a top 6 draft pick and Dusty as a free agent.

I think there are also a number of legal/ethical issues in getting the deal done even if we wanted it (i.e. I don't think we can do the deal with Freo until trade week and if it isn't water tight then we can't run the risk of it running over) Question I have is, especially if we win a flag this year would anyone here consider it?

We get a flag and next year Dusty with Picks 5 and 17. We'd have some spare change cap wise (albeit not much) and probably a better player for the next five years (Dusty v Buddy). We'd be able to draft Brander as a long term KPF and if we get Blakey a potential gun FF/CHF combo for a generation.

Despite all that I actually want to see Buddy play out his career in red and white and I don't particularly want to have to watch that piece of white trash in red and white either. Buddy is one of the GOAT and we should feel privileged to see him every week in our colours

No way we trade 'Box Office' Buddy.

This. Even when we played like crap at the start of the season I said the only justification for paying Swans membership was the joy of seeing what Buddy can do each week. I used to find Goodes remarkable but Buddy is Goodes switched to Showtime.

Ha, ha, ha - kerplonk! That's the sound of me laughing my head off.

Inconceivable to think the Swans would trade out the league's MVP. A man that has almost single-handedly doubled our membership numbers, average home crowds, merch' sales and sponsorship revenues. (OK - doubled is possibly an exaggeration).

If this happens, I'll eat Barnaby Joyce's hat.

                    This.

Good a season as Dusty has had, Buddy remains a far more entertaining and far more valuable player. He will slow down one day - maybe while we've still got him on the books for a year or two - but he's not showing any signs yet. Give me a damaging forward any day over ANY midfielder (and we've got a already got a handful of pretty decent ones any way, ones who form a pretty complementary and cohesive unit).

Not to mention the fact that Buddy approached the Swans because he wanted to live in Sydney - ideally in the east - with his now-wife Jesinta. He probably gets recognised on the street more than any other current Swan but I doubt it's anything like at the level it was in Melbourne, or would be in Perth. There is no way Buddy would want to move to Perth (and even less way Jesinta would want to), and it would be a crass move by the Swans to even suggest it to him (even if there were any good footballing grounds on which to contemplate it).

Very much doubt Jesinta would want to move to Perth of all places...

Getting a post endorsed by Liz is almost as exciting as getting a Tweet aired on QandA or a retweet from the late, great @Colvinius.

I think we also had a suggestion of Longmire for Scott earlier in the season - was laughable then and more so now
