Let's settle down on the mchack gushiness. He has strung a few good games together, and the resurgence was done mostly without McVeigh doing much.

    Sorry memories!

His selection cost is last year's flag.

This seems increasingly likely but still not certain. Mills made the point in his presser too that he, Newman and Melican find it invaluable having Macca and Ramps to guide them and learn from.

As for a big bodied mid to replace Joey: he's underappreciated and not in Joey's league (not so far anyway) but George Hewett fits this bill. And Joey didn't shine from day 1 either - which is why we (a) got him from Hawthorn; and (b) did so cheaply. It's yet to be seen whether they have the inside games, but Murray and Dawson also have the right body size and could move to the midfield in the years ahead.

Isn't Dawson potentially that player if he ever gets a run in the AFL?

That's very debatable.... it certainly won't cost us this years. Maybe settle down on your search for a reaction......

I suspect that at some time in the past McVeigh snuck into a parking space that Barry had his eye on, and Deano, nice chap
that he is, offered Barry his space to make up for it....

Dawson is following a similar path to George Hewett, spending 2 full years in the NEAFL before getting a crack at senior footy in the 3rd year (although Dawson did get one game). George was very good in his 2 years and has now shown it was a good indication of how he would eventually go at AFL level. Dawson has even exceeded George's performances, as well as other strong NEAFL midfielders of recent times in Lloyd and Robinson. Like JPK, Dawson is strong in all areas of the game and looks to have the potential of being a very powerful player. Besides JPK we have several very strong mids in Parker, Heeney and Hewett, so I don't think we will be bowled over even after Joey hangs up the boots, which hopefully is still a fair way off.

I hope we never waste our time with the impossible task of looking for a replacement for Buddy. JPK comes close in that respect. He's almost unique and not likely to find his qualities in a single player. Patrick Cripps is probably the closest for a young player with JPK similarities.

Almost. All he needs now is an extra 10 cm and 20 kg.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I actually got a bit of a surprise the other night when watching the Swans as I saw a big body in a pack and realised it was George. He has really bulked up over the last 12 months!

He'll get a run, don't worry about that. Just not this year.

Agree with Ludwig that his development seems to be mirroring that of Hewett. There's probably a few little things the coaching staff want him to work on and the carrot will be there for him to train the house down this summer. He's only 20 but I think that's a good age to be making your debut as many of the kids aren't really ready but I think the clubs feel obliged to give them games in case they get disillusioned (cue Gen Y rant)

He's been rewarded with a new deal so we clearly rate him. Right at the moment I'm not sure there is anyone who you'd drop for him anyway, it's not like we've been struggling the last 15 weeks...

Nothing debatable about it. Have a look at his stats or a replay. He was carrying an injury as well.

Nah, two @@@@ house GF games is enough to turn me off him. All the other crap game he puts in, is just the icing on the pool cake.

No way! The underperforming Tippett, Rohan and McGlynne with a combined 11 possessions cost us that game.
