I still think the most likely thing is that he will stay and given he really looks after himself we could get a decent three years from if he can stay off the treatment table

I agree that he'll most likely stay for the 3 years. His trade value would depend on how much if any of his contract we'd pay. If we pay 100% I'd expect a good pick, 50% 2nd -3rd round n 0% we'd almost give him away. There is a lot of variables involved if he's traded out. Zaharakis is the interesting one for me. Outside mid, perfect age, good character. Perfect fit for us at the right price n length.

It's his 5th season n he's played 70 games so you can see why a fair few people don't have the confidence in him. Plus his pay packet has frustrated a lot for what he's delivered in the last few years. i think most talk about trading him as he's the only commodity that could get the club martin or a star player if it's even possible. I don't think it's a they hate Tippet it's that they look at the talent so just deliver scenario. Which could happen come September. Anythings possible that time of year just look at Tom Boyds grand final. Sinclair pfft I gave up on him a long time ago.
Surprised people on this site are bagging Sinclair. He seems to be getting a bit better each week on his ruckwork and he once took eight contested marks, something I imagine Tippett will never be able to do. He has not been great lately but he has been serviceable. To my eyes Tippett looks like a dinosaur out there just lumping along. Only gets a game to save Horse's poor judgement call in recruiting him in the first place.

On statistics Sinclair might have one upon on Tippet but over the course of their careers Tippet destroys Sinclair. I just don't think Sinclair has and ever will be a premiership quality ruckman.

I don't think stats are a true indication. If it was then Tom Mitchell would win the Brownlow by 20 votes.

I agree 100% but your the one who bought up a stat so I countered with career stats. I just don't rate Sinclair.

Just re the Tippo... my thinking is we basically never trade guys who are in contract. So, if he's contracted to 2020 (or 2030)
he'll be here that long. Isn't it just an open and shut case? Tippo is not going anywhere soon.

I've never heard of anything so inane. It is completely self-serving to justify the Swans' stockpiling of mediocre ruckmen. As if clubs are really worried about an in-game injury to a ruckman. Even Melbourne, who do have a top notch ruckman, wouldn't be worried because they actually did better when Gawn was out injured and Pedersen was doing the bulk of the ruck work. So why would they be worried?

Longmire wants to play his 2013 dream forward line come hell or high water. He doesn't care about the form of the players or if it's a suitable structure given the changes in the game plans of other clubs. He's stuck in this time warp and determined to see it through. Doing away with the centre bounce is the only thing that might save him.

The reality is that playing 2 ruckmen instead of an adequately tall back line is far more likely to cost a premiership.

PS: Gerard Healy is now using a new term first heard on here 2 years ago: Hitouts to Disadvantage. I wish he would come up with his own material.
Don't you mean "The reality is that playing 2 ruckmen instead of Aliir is far more likely to cost a premiership." :-)
I think you touched on it. I believe Horse is playing three tall forwards rather than two ruckmen. I've never been a fan of it, but I'm warming up to it. It just gives us so much flexibility with the ability to swing players around between forward, ruck and defense. Play tall or short at different times. It allows us to be more fluid and adapt you how the game is being played.

It really does come down to whether one prefers a big forward/ruck type like Tippett, or a more flexible athletic type like Aliir. Tippett is certainly capable of making his role a winner when he's at his best, but I still think his best role is to play as a ruckman who goes forward and can kick a goal, much like Carlton use Kreuzer or Hawthorn use McEvoy. I think this option has become the preferred one going around the league now. I'm often in the minority, but on this one I'm find myself in the crowd. Our problem is that we've invested a lot in our ruck stocks and feel we have to use them. The quantity is there, but not the quality.

There has been no news about us recruiting any players from other clubs apart from one of the first Martin rumours. Our astute recruiters are surely looking at someone to play a role next year.

The Swans really don't have any holes in the team. We are quite strong on every line and have a good stock of emerging players that are not getting games this year. We may only have McVeigh retiring and even that's no certainty. There also aren't any good free agents that we can afford, so I can understand that we are not going after anyone special. It doesn't mean that we won't pick up anyone, like we did last year with Shaun Edwards, but's it's unlikely to be an automatic starter. I'm just hoping that we can give enough opportunities next year to the many good players now in our reserves team.

McVeigh will be playing for the Swans next year. Mark my words. And Stevie J will be coaching at the Swans allegedly. I can see a quiet trade period ahead.

Reckon given contract status and the state of our list that we'll go with just the Melican upgrade and first two picks.

I hope Macca plays for The Swans next year, no other player, experienced or up and coming can distribute the pill like he does.

I'd be very disappointed to see him leave the Club for many reasons, not least of which is his being the epitome of the club man/person. I want him to be a one-club player.

There is no doubt that his return to the team was a massive factor in reversing the team's fortunes this year. His leadership was sorely missed, which is no slight on Kennedy, but reminds us of what being a leader is about, regardless of who wears the stripes. Like Brett Kirk, who should have captained the 2005 GF team, he is the beating heart of the team. He may not be fast, but he tends to be . . . correction: is just about always . . . in the right places, and his disposal efficiency has been great. And, as has been mentioned several times on this site, his pointing game is without peer. Our defensive structure means that he is not often isolated one-on-one and exposed in terms of pace, and swinging him forward need not necessarily be seen as a running up of the white flag: he is a genuine threat forward, and Reid comes back to close down quarters anyway.

Some of my fondest SCG memories are of him as a fuzzy-haired stripling in the mid 2000s, running beep-test lines up and down the O'Reilly wing, waving his arms for the ball and being ignored week after week.

The most interesting question for us is what happens with Mills over the next two seasons. Really looking forward to that. I would like to see us thinking about Joey's replacement: a big-bodied inside mid. Hard to find in the ND, and very pricey in the trade market.

Been very important to our resurgence this year, one of the few/only Swans with elite foot skills. Modest one year contract seems the way to go.

Will all play out once Dusty announces his intentions :-)
