It's always possible that Smith has some friends who aren't (or weren't) footballers. Though one of the shorter ones towards the front (not the one at the very front) could be McGlynn.
It's kinda sweet to see so many defenders across several generations (in the context of Swans lists) all gathered together.Comment

He's a very good player - despite the media only waking up to this in season 2017, Swans fans knew this before - but I still don't think our team has been weakened by his departure, given we can only field 22 players at any time and we started to develop a more diverse midfield in 2017. If he is dominating and winning Brownlows in his late 20s once Joey has retired and, if we've not found an adequate replacement for Joey, it might sting a bit more. But the Hawks have had to put up with watching Kennedy blossom into one of the very best inside midfielders in the competition, and they didn't actually realise just how good he was.Comment

Liz my gut feeling is the Hawks knew JPK was good for an inside mid role which was not hugely their game plan at the time
He definitely thrived with our game plan of highly contested footy on a smaller field where josh didn't have to flood forward and back via more uncontested style of Hawks footy
The Hawks had a stack of players ahead of him but we paid a handsome amount that they could not match due to an overflowing amount of players on their list plus they maybe thought he would come back a couple seasons later ...........but he stayed in Sydney thank goodness"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I now think that our team was weakened by Mitchell's departure.
Hard to say that it wasn't given his stats.
Not saying it was the wrong call, and we always have to look to the future and salary cap etc, but with him in the side we would have been a bit better. The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

Losing Mitchell probably hurt us this year, especially during our 0-6 run. Maybe he could have made the difference that got us into the top 4. But I think the longer effects of the Mitchell trade will be positive. I don't think we would have seen George Hewett develop into a player that came in 5th in the Bob Skilton Medal. Ollie Florent will give us more of the diversity we need in our team going forward. He shows every sign of being a quick, skillful and intelligent player. Most calls are easier to make with hindsight.
We lost a very good player who Hawthorn got at a bargain price, although pick 14 in the 2016 draft is probably equal to a pick 5 pick this year. We have to look at the bigger picture and take into account all the variables, including salary cap and player diversity. It was a good trade because it helped both clubs.Comment

Watts? God I hope not - he's like Towers without the ticker. A footballer in the AFL that grates on me as much as this bloke I can't think of.Comment

Watts is meeting with the Swans today but it is only a face-to-face meeting whilst our management is in Melbourne for the draft. Not Watts travelling to Sydney for a tour, etc. I'd be very surprised if we got him.
I hope we are looking at someone to bring in that can immediately help our senior players. We are in the premiership window and have plenty of youth already.Comment

I thought this year showed that Sinclair was more of a forward than a ruck."Fortunately, this is the internet, so knowing nothing is no obstacle to having an opinion!." Beerman 18-07-2017Comment

Footy boss Tom Harley says discussions about trading Kurt Tippett haven't taken place, while they're read more about Jack Watts joining their club than they've talked about it.
Either complete smokescreen or we really haven't done much regarding Watts. Not sure he's exactly what we need so happy for him to go elsewhere but if we are into him, the club obviously has a role in mind.Comment
