I've never seen anything in Foote's game to indicate he's of or going to be AFL standard. Good NEAFL player but highly unlikely to cut it at the top level. How he stayed higher in the pecking order than Dawson is beyond me.
Dawson's string of BOGs should have been rewarded, just lucky we re-signed him before that or no doubt he would be getting traded to SA.
Surely AA & Dawson must be given opportunity as they have far more upside than some of our fringe players. We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!Comment

Geelong have bowed out of the Watts race, don't believe they can get the deal done with Melbourne. Port to the fore.Comment

Is this the most boring trade period ever.
All talk - no action!!Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

Our improvement will be as follows
Tippet hopefully fit all year and becomes a weapon when resting in the forward line
Sinclair to develop into a 40 goal forward
Dawson to become a regular in the best 22
Haywood, Melican and Florent to go to the next level
Reid to be a regular in defence
Cameron to develop into a forward also get 30-40 goals
Buddy moves to the wing
And lastly Towers never plays again for the SwansComment

Anthony Hudson was so bored this afternoon on SEN and he gave me heart failure saying he had breaking news that Buddy had announced that he wanted to leave and come back to Melbourne! My heart jumped out of my chest before I realised he was joking!!Comment

However, I remain of the view that under the current rules should the Swans nominate Blakey as an academy pick this would take priority over any F/S nomination. I base this on the fact that the F/S nomination explicitly refers to player consent (as shown by his signature on the nomination form) but there is no such explicit mention in regard to academy nominations.
There is a draft nomination form 39A which has to be completed for both academy and F/S nominations. I can?t access this from a tablet but if someone is interested enough to try from a desk top, it may become clearer (that is, does a player have to sign consent to an academy nomination). I think these forms can be found at: www.nabafldraftnom.com.auComment

I have a few tough questions for the rules' experts. I hope Meg and the rest of the RWO intelligentsia will have a go at this.- Can a contracted player be delisted without his consent?
- If a contracted player is delisted and then drafted by another club, is that club obligated to pick up the entirety of the players remaining contract?
- If a primary listed player is delisted and then added back to the list as a rookie at a salary higher than the AFL standard rookie salary, is half the contract salary excluded from TPP or just half the AFL standard rookie salary?
- If a player was once drafted as a Cat B rookie and subsequently delisted, can he be drafted again as a Cat B rookie or only as a Cat A rookie?
- Is there any limit to the number of 3rd year rookies that a club can have on its list?

1. No, he has a contract that must be honoured.
2. Doesn't apply, see 1
3. Doesn't apply, see 1
4. Cat B has very specific parameters, if he was Cat B rookied as a not registered for 3 years then he will have been registered next time around unless there is a 3 year gap. Other Cat B are non football/overseas/other sports so presume once has been a Cat B they wouldn't apply. Maybe there's no rules for such circumstances?
5. Formerly was just one but think it's more liberal now.Comment

I?m pretty sure you can delist a contracted player. However the club is obligated to pay that player the money stated in the contract as well as include the money in the salary cap.
In fact this is the exact rumour going around at the moment. That Port are going to delist the contracted Matthew Lobbe if they can?t find any takers at the trade table.Comment

I read that to mean:
Yes, a contracted player can be delisted without his consent (but with the approval of the AFL). He must then be paid out according to the remaining term of the contract under the conditions set out here in the CBA. (And this is consistent with employment contracts with which I have had experience.)
Under the ?no unjust enrichment? clause 18, should the player then be drafted by another club, he (or the new club) may have to repay the former club some portion of the termination payment (see CBA for details). However there does not seem to be any obligation by the new club to pick up the whole of the remainder of the former contract. (For example, if there had been 3 years left, the new club might only contract the player for 2 years.)
