Styles looks not dissimilar to Ling and Stoddart in terms of the roles they might play - ie athletic, good movers, good ball users but essentially receivers rather than contested ball winners, at least at this stage. With COR also just given a two year contract, it looks like the NEAFL half-back flanks could be as crowded as the forward line next year.Comment

Definitely a draft with a view to the longer term.I think the club feels confident with the existing youngsters stepping up next year. Four players with very similar physical profiles, we are definitely shopping for another Lloyd type.
Amartey looks exciting, genuine ruck forward with lots of speed and spring plus good hands, just a bit raw.
Tom McCartin also a good KPP prospect.
Playing to our strengths in player development.

That's why we've done really well signing both Heeney and mills up to long term contracts.Comment

It almost feels like we have swapped target player profiles with hawthorn. They are going for inside grunt over disposal while we are going for speed and footskills. Go figure. He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.Comment

I think it's standard. Pretty sure the players taken in the national draft are always on a 2 year contact at a standard afl prescribed wage. The rookies are on a 1 year contact of lesser value than the senior listed new draftees. The amounts are public knowledge but I can't remember what they are. Somewhere in the range of $80k to $100k. It's for contracts beyond the initial 2 years that are up for negotiation dollar wise. But players still can't just dictate what club they move to unless they reach the free agency criteria

The minimum salary for players beyond their second season has been set at $100,000.

We wanted three picks at the ND but didn't want to go above 38 players on the main list so AJ was delisted to create the three vacancies. He's been on the main list, we wanted to move him to the rookie list probably to save a few $ as he'll be on a lesser wage on the rookie list.Comment

I'm thinking this was an excellent draft period for Jordan Foote! ????All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)Comment
