I think that long term we'll be very strong at Div 1, it's a great carnival now with the five teams and I really like the extra games that the Div 2 gives the academies as these kids miss the regular elite competition of the TAC etc.
I played juniors in that period you are referring to and I think we definitely had the kids back then that had the ability and potential and make it but to be brutally honest the coaching and pathway was just not there. Coaches meant well but often they could not even teach the basics. And it was not helped by the local admin which was just appalling. I'm not sure that the kids are any better now but they now have a fighting chance of making it.
Of course the Swans did have the priority picks there for a while where we famously let both Carey and Longmire go to Norf for a packet of crisps but the club was terribly run back then and didn't have a pot to pee in so couldn't fund it even if they wanted to. Then when we did get our act together self interest ruled out any meaningful Swans investment in development.
