2020 certain Flag. Why?
Go back to the last two seasons that the Swans didn't make the finals, 2002 and 2009 respectively, then add three years-2005 and 2012.
Even in more distant years when Sydney failed to make the finals, three years on was highly successful:
2000. 2003 unexpected Preliminary Final appearance when many were predicting a spoon
1995. 1998 strong 3rd place Home and Away position.
1994. 1997 first time since the 1930's the Swans made back-to-back finals
1993. 1996 broke a 51 year Grand Final appearance draught.
BRING ON 2020!

You should watch the replay twice. Why should we be the only ones to suffer?Comment

Not sure where to put this post. The Dogs showed that (at least last season) grand finals can be won by anyone in the 8, so playing finals might not just be making up the numbers.
But if we were to miss finals, would we rather finish 9th or 18th? (With the obvious positive of finishing last)
It would be far better to miss the finals with a competitive season. You'll still have good wins to savour. The last four times we missed the finals were 1995, 2000, 2002 and 2009 and we were competitive in each of those years. All had good games that made a seasons without finals still enjoyable. The win against Collingwood in the last round of 1995 to keep them out of the finals is one example of the joy that can be had in a season where we don't play finals.
Contrast that with the dark times of the spoon years of 1992 to 1994. 14 months without a win. Epic floggings including being 120 points down at half time against the second-bottom side 19.10 to 0.4 (we lost that by 162 points). One solitary win in 1993 in a season where we were expected to go winless.
So I would rather see our boys be competitive, even if we do miss the finals. I would take 9th over last any day."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Trust me, you really, really don't want our Swans to finish last after finishing on top last year. You'll be copping it from opposition fans for many years.
