Yes, I also would prefer an Adelaide win. Having first become a genuine Aussie Rules fan when I was living in Adelaide, I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the Crows. They can also be good to watch and Eddie Betts is probably my favourite non-Swans player.
Would also hate a Giants win. To me, they seem to be a side that has been given every advantage, who are followed by people who claim that they never got nothing. Plus if they did win, there's likely to be a whole lot of outrage from the Victorian powers, directed northward. If any punitive measures are enacted, there's a reasonable chance that those measures will be also directed at us.Comment

I'm working in Adelaide this week so if I get to go to the game - I'm going for the crows!!! (Safety first and all that!!) and I hope the Giants beat Richmond. I reckon the Giants should train all week with blaring crowd noise through the PA system across the ground - just to get used to what they are going to endure on Saturday night. VIC police might consider putting the riot squad on standby as well! ????????????I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Hey, enough of that, we love it here, most liveable city in Australia and world class wine regions under an hour away! Crows are the worse thing about the place :-)
AFL be ,loving the last four, Geelong 6 years since a GF, Crows 20 years, Wretchmond a couple of generations and the AFL love child. Hate them all, Cats the least so looks like that's the result I want.
MCG crowd this week, 95,000? how many orange people 1,000 - 1,500?Comment

A mate who works in Sydney told me that there are always free tickets freely available for GWS games so that, combined with people who have GWS as a second team and Canberra supporters obviously bolster the H&A numbers. Does make you wonder how many real GWS members there are in Sydney, on last night probably not that many. Still a loooong road for GWS, lucky the AFL have their back!Comment

Thought the official crowd figure of 14,800 last night was generous counting, a bit like a Zimbabwe election! On the TV it looked like 4-5,000 WCE as well, so only 10,000 GWS supporters for their last game at home must be seen as disappointing.

Canberra Giants? Tasmanian Giants, anyone?Comment

I love Adelaide - I'm there one week in every 4 - staying with friends in Goodwood - I know my way around now which is good - if I get to go to the prelim Friday night I will probably really enjoy it as I don't care who wins. But I have a feeling we may head up to Clare or the Barossa on Friday arvo and watch it at a pub!! There is wine to be had!!!!Comment

Yes, but it will be interesting to see over the next few years, whether the GWS experiment gathers enough momentum to become viable, or if it dies an embarrassing and painful death? Personally, I think that the second option is more likely. They don't win a premiership, their much vaunted list quickly disintegrates, as players leave to play for proper clubs and crowds slowly decline.

They could have taken several shortcuts with the a 2nd Sydney team, playing out of scg for example, but that doesn't address the western Sydney market.
The AFL have said they will wait for a generation.
The giants may be up, they may go down, if things go bad they may even merge with someone, but there will always be a team in western Sydney. The AFL isn't a serious national comp without them. It isn't a serious comp without the swans either and that has saved us through some perilous times.
It's also a boon for the swans as they concentrate on a smaller market within Sydney. The job is too big for one team.
People are in a panic about the final crowd, but it was less than the same H&A fixture, so was the H&A fixture suddenly good?.
Neither, it's the same problem we've always had. The AFL run finals, and they have no understanding of the Sydney market.Comment

I agree about the wine regions (except I don't drink, so Goswannette is the beneficiary there).
As a movie goer, I do like the cinema per capita ratio. And it's not far from any point in Adelaide to any other point (although the drivers here make travel not much fun).
Property prices are good - though that's offset by the utilities and inept government.
But one of the best things is the SA Swans supporter group here! A wonderful bunch.
I remember going to my first game here when I moved over to study in 1995 (a night match). Feared for my life by the end of it! But over the years the number of Swans supporters have swelled and it's a pleasant environment when you attend a game and can sit with fellow Swans supporters.Comment

The absolute best thing is beating the Crows in Adelaide and being there, bliss!
I've attended some classics here, 1994 when we beat the Crows the week after they'd beaten ladder leader WCE in Perth, only about a dozen Swans supporters there. 2003 when we were severely depleted and beat Port in a semi-final.
A lot more support here for the Swans and you're right about how good (and passionate) the local supporter group are.Comment
