I think Nev came over after Norm went back to the Burough.

    Ahh those were the days.
Andrews and Stewie Gull were playing on each other and were running towards a fight on the wing. Andrews thought he'd whack Gull on the way. Stewie decked him and instantly became one of my heroes because Andrews was supposedly THE hard man of the then VFL. I think Gull had had some professional fights on TV Ringside?

      Yes that is exactly right.
Iwas at that game and saw it happen.
Stewie has a Real Estate business in Ballarat was my last info on him.

Adelaide for me. I will never barrack for a Victorian team over an interstate team. Although it has turned out good, it was the 11 Victorian clubs who sent South Melbourne to Sydney. They can all GAGF as far as I'm concerned.

And NEVER forget what a bunch of total A*******s the whole Richmond football club is. They pillaged and raped the playing lists of the poorer clubs to produce the "Richmond era" of 67 to 74. If they needed a type of player they just offered them paper bags full of dollars and next minute some lowly club has lost their best player to Richmond. The Graham Richmond, Alan Schwab, and Ian Wilson eras of management of this filthy club nearly sent the whole league broke, with their cheque book recruiting and under the table player payments.

Ian Wilson also produced Caroline Wilson, another reason to hate them.

Filthy @@@@ bag of a club, may it be another 35 years until we see them in a GF again.

        Go the Crows!

Thought this was a good article on the mental aspect of finals.

How a player can cope with the madness of an AFL grand final | Craig Little | Sport | The Guardian

This in particular made me reflect on the finals that, shall we say, we did not get quite right:

Mental preparation is the motif that Archer returns to again and again. He believes it is why some players thrive on the big stage while others stumble. ?It?s obviously a mental thing, you don?t physically change over a couple of weeks.?

Boiled to its irreducible core, Archer?s advice for the 44 young men on Saturday is simply ?to go?.

?When it?s your turn to go, you go. If you prepare for that, the rest will fall into place.?

Our golden era of the 1930s involved a similar recruiting strategy (albeit from WA)

And many clubs were none too pleased with the good Doc's cheque book in the mid 80s.

Im not a Tigers fan, but many teams do what it takes to build a list

I've only been to Adelaide twice for the footy, both times against the Crows at Footy Park. The fans were pretty feral and gave me a Hawthornesque hard time. No wonder Baz belted some bloke on one occasion (Rutten?).

Plus the invective their fans directed at us over Tippett. I won't forget that either.

Stone the Crows. I'm a bit caught up in the fairytale. Go Tiges.

Very hard to get excited about the GF this year, on the back of a completely underwhelming finals series. So far this finals series
has produced just one game out of seven where the margin was less than six goals. And even the close game had a suspect ending.

                  Feel the same.

Although that one close game was one of the best I've ever seen.

I hope the Crows win as they have been the best team all year. Also the commentary out of Melbourne has been so overwhelming almost sickening. They, as it turned out had a very soft draw and played Carlton, Lions, Dockers, Saints, & GWS twice which helped them get into the top 4. Lets see how they go next year with a tougher draw.

I live in Adelaide so it's all we've heard about. Reckon there were a dozen Crows pages in yesterday's paper and it's only Thursday. If they win the flag it will be unbearable here but I'd rather that than Wretchmond which has been a fabulous continuing tale of tragedy that we've all enjoyed.

I mean, years of finishing 9th then finally making the finals only to be beaten by the team that finished ..... 9th (Carlton 2013)! Oh, and what about the comedy last year that was "Focus on Footy". I don't want it to end, losing the GF will perpetuate the misery.

Not sure how playing GWS twice was soft.

One of the great things about living in Sydney is that you have to actively seek out AFL, it doesn't come to you. After the sickening Vic bias of the preliminary finals, I stopped seeking, and it has been refreshing. I would hate to be in Melbourne this week.

Barry I am a Victorian and I am sick and tired of you hanging @@@@ on Victorians. We are sick to death too of the bandwaggoning by the media down here, but what do you expect really? If Melbourne Storm were playing the Balmain Tigers in the NRL GF how much love would Storm be getting in NSW. If you don't like it why don't you just EFF OFF and watch rugby FFS.

Unfortunately everything has ground to a halt footy wise in Sydney. We're not in the GF, even GWS didn't make it, and they
were the pre season favourites. There are two boring teams there instead. No Sydney teams in the league GF either.
                              Things are not going well.

Agreed. After our loss I have been able to have a cooling off period and now I am looking forward to a fun GF afternoon.
I hope it is close and the Tiggers lose because Rance does a "Luke Ablett" in the last five minutes. But apart from the diving Rance there are no others that I actively dislike, unusual for a GF. That is probably because the Hawks have been in most of the recent ones.
