Commentators insist Grundy is a goner but to me (my stream was not hi-def) his half-hearted raised elbow just got his shoulder.

Good to see our blokes being physical lately. We'll need that next time we make the finals.

This wasn't the 2012-15 Hawks tonight, it was a team full of low rated kids and past their best veterans.

We were near full strength and at home, should not have lost, even though we had rotation restrictions.

100 difference in uncontested possessions, WTF, just stick with your man!

Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to the draft we go!

...it just sucks when we lose.

Consistent umpiring will always be a problem, but it irritates me when players suck-in gullible umps. Shaun Burgoyne's holding the man free kick (and then goal) was complete garbage. He took possession, dropped the ball and was momentarily held by Parker, so he throws his hands out and gets a free. Yet in the opening 20 secs Lloyd gives a handball and then is legitimately slung around after the ball is cleared (and gets concussed) and yet there is no holding the man.

The umpires didn't lose us the game, but it still irritates me that some players are able to exploit the rules (even if they are a gun).

Those are some great points, 707. You're 100% correct.

Unless there is more vision (from another angle) showing a clear clip to the chin he will be fine. The standard shot from the coverage just looks like contact with the shoulder. Hodge is not going to throw him under the bus.

Sinkers surprised me again tonight. It wasn't a bad effort from the much maligned big fella. I reckon Hewett must have photos or something. I'm not sure how he escapes scrutiny or even gets selected every week.

Shoulder and minimal contact with shoulder. Hodge was staging.

Dangerfield got it right on Fox regards 2 men down. He explained how hard it is keep up with midfield rotations and in the end it takes it's toll. Those last couple of plays that led to Roughhead marking, our blokes could hardly run. Isaac's wheels were spinning trying to get to Isaac Smith.

Inexperience showed up tonight with both Florent and Hayward. Ollie had 7 stats and Will 9. It shows how hard it is for these boys to compete at the highest level at their age with immature bodies. Ollie had that flash of brilliance for Heeney's goal but otherwise hardly contributed. Will just didn't get near the footy much. When you are 2 players down this only exacerbates the situation. When you really look at it closely in the end we were stiff to lose.

I know some people thought Towers was ok, but he fell back into taking the ball and then running into the tackle. There were a few times when instinct should have taken over and a hand pass at the first possession was the obvious action. Hewett did exactly the same. On a wet dewy ground where the ball skids you just have to force it forward at all costs. They get those possessions skidding forward, the backs get a bit panicky and you don't know what might prevail. Last week they really got that instinct play right. Disappointing they fell back into bad habits.

At times tonight it looked just a bit hard for George. He didn't go that extra centimetre in a few contests. There was one play on the boundary in the last quarter where it looked like Hodge scared him out of it.

That play really sucked. It was actually three swans against Hodge and he was the only one willing. Hewett stood there and waited rather than contesting the ball or making heavy contact with Hodge. The ball goes out, but it was a win for the Hawks.

Yes, just had a look at the Lloyd incident on replay. Eighteen seconds in, Lloyd fires a handpass to Heeney, while under pressure from Mitchell. Lloyd's attention is then on Heeney and whether he will catch the ball. Only then does Mitchell sling Lloyd. On the way down, he is collected by a knee to the head. No free kick.
Heeney then doesn't take clean possession and the ball spills near Rampe, who goes low in an attempt to gather. While there, he is hit high with a glancing blow by Puopolo. No free kick. Rampe tries to rise but is tackled without ever really taking possession. Umpires now spot an infringement: holding the ball free to Hawthorn. Goal Hawthorn.
                        Grrrrr!

                          Lloyd was targeted.
@@@@en Callum Mills and @@@@en Towers lost us the game in the last few minutes.
That's the worst game Mills has ever played.
I've said it a gazillion times... you don't win games playing five metres behind the man then playing the man and not the ball.
Zack Jones is going to get himself suspended if he doesn't reign it in. I love a bit of mongrel, but every time the umpire in the trackies ran out... Jones was in the thick of it.
                          Bye finals.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

We looked like a tired team out there from the first bounce of the ball. It was similar to the Collingwood game, where we couldn't keep up with the short kicking game and we went into a big 1st qtr deficit, fought our way back, only to lose it in the end. This is not the sign of a good team.

Hawthorn always had players moving to position to get a short kick. We constantly were forced to kick to a contest. When we took a mark, the rest of the team seemed to come to a halt.

Sinkers and Tippett were both reasonable in the ruck, but neither kicked a goal or had much influence on the game. Tippett was okay around the ground, but we would have been better served with one ruckman and another 'running' player, especially when went down by 2 players.

Nothing in that elbow on hodge.

What a disappointing finish - felt like we lost it rather than hawks won it given the chances we had to bury the game.

Never really been in the Tippett is garbage camp, but 0.1 and 6 marks is not enough for our ruck division. They dropped a lot of sitters tonight.
