I'm sure you mean the match committee but this is beside the point.
I'm an advocate of picking the best available 22, sometimes this will be dictated by the opposition, at other times by availability or form.
This week our opposition forwards have 3 tall forwards (Daniher, Hooker and Stewart) and 3 speedy and talented smalls (Green, Fantasia(?), Mac-Tip). Our backs should reflect the flexibility to deal with these threats as well as the ability to launch attacks when we have possession. This latter component is often overlooked in the desire to maximize the former. Rampe, Newman, Allir, Jones, McVeigh and Mills provide this attacking option, and together with Grundy, Smith, Melican, and Laidler provide the stability and discipline to win the one on ones and create turnovers.
Many of the decisions at the selection table are based on getting the balance right. Rohan provides flexibilty, Mcveigh provides flexilbilty, Reid provides flexibity.
I'm not sure what is out best 22 this week, I know I would rather have a fit Tippett than Sinclair, I would rather that Allir be in the team than not, I would like to think that Mcveigh in the team helps us make better decisions because he does, I think Robinson and Dawson deserve their chances, I want AJ back.
I'm glad were winning again.Comment

Along with Towers. And matches would be played at ANZ.
A frightening sliding doors possibility. All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)Comment

With his recent continuous soft tissue injuries and lack of match practice, it would be a huge call, and an erroneous one, to bring McVeigh straight into the side. Imagine if he goes down with another soft tissue early in the game, we'd be cooked.
Melican must come in to handle their talls, Dawson must be given reward for great NEAFL form, I may have said that before :-) Out Jones, on the flimsiest of evidence I must say, and Towers who gave nothing last week.Comment

First time poster!
I was at the game Saturday and what I noticed a few times with Mills is that he tends to let his frustration get the better of him and really gives it to the boys when they stuff up. His body language shifts and I saw Nick Smith get around him alot when were were down against Richmond.
I know that he holds himself and the team to high standards but giving your mates a whack when they're down isn't swans footy.......In saying that, he is young and the team will hold him accountable for that.Comment

Mills is also hard on himself when he stuffs up. He is very passionate!
With regards to the Jones suspension, a good point was made last night on Talking Footy about the unclear long distance footage that was used. What if the Buddy/Rance incident was only taken by a long distance camera? The way Rance flopped you would think that Buddy got him in the head.

Welcome RichardLong. Good to have you join the conversation.
I agree that Mills is passionate and driven and hard on himself. The manifestation of this that I love is that when he stuffs up he absolutely goes into overdrive to try and remedy his error e.g. he drops an uncontested mark and then makes berserk 2nd and 3rd efforts to win the ball back. I think his voice shows leadership (nowhere more evident than when he addressed the whole playing group at quarter time in one of our early season matches) but hopefully will mellow and become more nuanced and wise as he gains experience. Chastising teammates may occasionally be appropriate (Kirky to Davis "you owe us one!") but definitely should be done sparingly. Mills has some licence to demand excellence of others in my opinion because he also demands it of himself and mostly delivers.
waswan, yes, Aliir is injured. I've read this a few times. Here is one source: Dominant Sydney Swans record big win over depleted Aspley – NEAFL. It says "Aliir was also serviceable@until he went off late in the fourth quarter injuring the same knee that kept him out of last year?s AFL Grand Final".All opinions are not equal.
