Can anybody see us having a crack at the crows Tom Lynch. Will be 28 next year and is in a stand off with the crows over contract length.

If Nick Blakey nominates Sydney at this years draft , there will be no need for Tom Lynch because Blakey at this point can reputably play a similar role.Comment

But if Tom Lynch for the Suns, if he was to sign on for two more years with them then I could well see us going for him in 2021 as Buddy enters the 8th yet of his dealComment

Crows Tom Lynch is a seriously under rated player, four years, no problems for our age profile. Crows seem to have a lot of contract stand offs, always offering unders and short contracts. Most of them get sorted but a few have pulled the pin for clubs that rate them more highly.Comment

Tom Lynch would be great for the Swans. I was sad when he went to the Crows for only a pick 37. What a bargain. I thought he was underrated then, but I think he is very highly regarded now. He's just the kind of player we need. He effectively does what we would want Gary Rohan to do. We are missing that tall link man who can also kick 30+ goals a year. But it's hard to see how he gets to the Swans. Firstly, he's not a free agent, so it will likely cost a bidder for his services a first round pick. I can't see us parting with ours given we need it to get Blakey. There were also reports on this forum that we have another good prospect next year. Secondly, he's not going to come cheap. This will be his last big contract and he will want to cash in, and there should be many clubs interested in getting him. The one thing we would have going for us is that he would be going to a top premiership contender. In the end, he's probably just a bit too much cream for the Swans to ingest. We're about as fat as the league will allow.
I don't think we are likely be in the player transfer market in any serious way this year. We just have too many good developing players to process through the system.Comment

Ludwig, next year there is a kid named Rayner that is in the elite AIS squad I think. One of only two nsw boys. Also Jackson Barling and another kid from North Shore. Of course a lot can happen in two years but hopefully the academy pipeline is about to start flowing.Comment

The word around the academy parents is that the Swans are gearing up to pay big "points" to secure Blakey.
Josh Rayner is a big prospect for next year, he is not quite as silky smooth as Mills was at his age but he is certainly much more physical than Mills was at the same age. Rayner is a much more contested footy player where as Cal tended to wait outside and dispose of the ball beautifully once it was won. Not intended as a criticism of Call (as a 16yo) but just trying to illustrate the differences between the boys.Comment

I?m sure the swans have a system in place where they objectively rate him and try and make a rational decision re any matchingComment

Our trading Sam Murray in the last trade period seems to be working out well all round. Murray is flourishing at the Pies (won the most recent Rising Star nom) but not so much as to devalue their second round pick for us (Pies, happily, are languishing at 14th place on the ladder - quite acceptable for the purposes of the value of their 2nd round pick).
Interesting to note that Murray explained his reasons for leaving was that he was stuck behind too many good defenders like Smith, Macca, Mills. These quotes from https://www.sen.com.au/news/2018/04/...lliant-bucks/:
?Sydney had been successful for a number of years?the people that play on the back flanks and back pockets at Sydney are well and truly established AFL footballers, blokes like (Jarrad) McVeigh, Nick Smith, Callum Mills and the like,? said Murray.
?Those blokes were obviously holding me back (but) at the same time they taught me a lot about my footy.
?The program they have got at Sydney is second-to-none, they?re unreal with their development of players but at the same time, for me it was about biding my time.
?I was lucky enough that I got a bit of exposure in the NEAFL and then I got over to Collingwood, which was great.?
Interestingly, the Magpies chief recruiter, Derek Hine, echoes Murray's praise for Swans development program Man from the Murray a Rising Star - collingwoodfc.com.au where he says:
Hine says it was more than just his pace that made him a trade target.
?It wasn?t only in the way that he was playing, but it was his defensive mechanisms, his confidence ? he basically took to it like a duck to water.
?That, combined with being in such a good system with the Swans, who are so professional, really gave us the confidence to chase him and chase him hard.
This (a) confirms what we already know, namely that the Swans coaching and development staff are pretty much the best in the business; and (b) suggests that the quality of our coaching and development gives us a return, not only with the Swans players performing better on the field, but also at the trade table by getting us a deservedly good return for a player on our rookie list.

FWIW, I reckon we'll get Blakey and not Lynch (neither of them). And that will do us just fine. All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)Comment

Agreed. Great post by bloodspirit.
We've got a few decent players that are possible delistings this year, like Robinson, Marsh, Rose and Foote (who looked really good in the reserves game until he got injured). All could perhaps find a home somewhere else and continue their careers. It's great advertising for our program and players by Murray and Collingwood. I think we'll get more recruiters looking at our NEAFL games, which helps both us and our players.
Murray accurately expresses the circumstances of his transfer to Collingwood. It shows it really was a win-win situation. Good luck to him.Comment
