When Rose was named I posted "I've got a bad feeling about this"
I didn't want to rip in to Rose, as my POV is based on past senior matches and not what he's been doing recently.
But I'm not a huge fan and was of the mindset that he doesn't have what it takes to make it consistently.

That said, I though he was ok last night.
    I'd give him another go.

      RETIRE:
Grundy; reason has lost any pace he had, loses his opponent too easily. Reading the play is only good if the opposition are going long into forward line. It's time to find out if Maibaum has the goods.
Jack: has lost his main weapon, his pace, now runs into trouble and first instinct is to duck. Kicks lack penetration.
Johnson; as much as it would be a great feel good story to see him back, I don't see it happening now.

McVeigh; It's his decision but should be encouraged to look at coaching role or move to another club like Hodge has done.

      Trades:
Rohan, lack of real impact in most games. Ronke/Papley/Florent can all do his job now. May not get much but we can at least get to another club.
Hanneberry; I hoped he would be a captain at some future stage, but he has been cruelled by injury. We have other options.
I missed a big one: DUMB football, trade in some footy smarts.
      DELIST:
Rose; he has been around for ages but is not AFL quality.
Reg is a possible All Australian this year and didn't seem to play on Rievoldt last night. Hannebery got more dream/fantasy points last night then most of the team. AJ has virtually no footy in hid comeback thus far and there is good chance he can return when he gets confidence in his knee.

Gaz needs to find form but his life has been turned upside down twice since his recruitment. Just needs a normal go at things, poor bugger.

Rose isn't quite there but the stars in the ressies all seem to fall short at AFL - Towers, Robbo, Newman. No world beaters. We will have to wait for Ling and Stoddard to develop.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

I see quite a few list changes coming at year end. I expect players like Newman, Robbo and Towers will ask to be traded elsewhere for lack of opportunities. Others who might be similar include Marsh and O?Reidon. If Alir is dropped then he may also ask to go. Then you have players like Rose and Foote who will be most likely delisted. Then there is Lloyd who may win our B&F this year but ask to be traded elsewhere as he is clearly being offered big money elsewhere. Then there are potential retirees in Reg, McVeigh, Smith and Jack (not sure on Jack?s contract status). Tippett delisted too of course. That would be huge turnover in one season. The only one there that has market value is Lloyd.

Nice article about Blakely here: Likely Swan bounces back after losing 4kg - AFL.com.au

I like this line as it is definitive of his desires for his future.

"But I just want to stay home with the family, I love Sydney. Anything can happen on draft night, I get that, but if I stay in Sydney that would be great."

I know we already knew he'd chosen us but it's great to hear those words coming from him.....he'll be a beauty.

A lot of outstanding talent in the U18s this year, a number of South Australians look to be standouts. Just hoping that Blakey slips a bit given the sheer number of other players that clubs should be focussed on.

I expect there'll be a lot of pick trading this year, maybe even some very clever swapping of picks by a number of clubs who have ties to expected first rounders, us included. I think this year picks can be traded outside of the 10 day trade period.

I like that except for the Reg assessment. He's playing as well as ever and his replacement, Maubaim, will probably need another year of development.

McVeigh has been great this year but he's only an injury away from playing poorly again. We also need to give opportunities to the others such as O'Riordon, Newman, Stoddart, Ling, etc.

I agree....except Ling is out for the season with a 'toe'.

Jake Lloyd is about to be made a ?godfather offer? from Gold Coast, according to Neil Cordy.

                  Category: | Herald Sun

THE Gold Coast Suns are trying to lure dashing Sydney Swans defender Jake Lloyd to the battling AFL club with a deal more than $1 million higher than Sydney?s offer.

Is there no end to Gold Coast's stupidity? It's time the AFL took over running that club.

I'd be peeved if GC nab Lloyd after taking Malceski. Let's hope we can the right coin for Lloyd moving forward. Right for us and him, that is.

As much as I like Lloyd, and Newman too for that matter, we can get by without them. I don't think it's what GC need, but that's for them to decide. They already have lots of 1st and 2nd round picks this year and should get another high one for Tom Lynch. We should be in the driver's seat to get another high draft pick in a good draft if GC really want Lloyd that badly. They did pay #2 pick for Lachie Weller, didn't they? So the sky's the limit.

I agree. He seems like an odd choice for the Suns. They need big bodies who can compete in the midfield, not slightly built, predominantly outside players. They seem to have a host of them already.

Still, if they believe otherwise and are willing to throw silly money at him, that's their choice I guess.

Other possibility, his manager is trying to get a better offer from the Swans, by giving this story about a potential GC offer to Neil Cordy

Stewie Dew knows our players' strength well so he knows what he will get from any one of them.
Hope he does not pick the eyes out of our 'up and comers'.

Would be a problem if both Lloyd and McVeigh were lost at the same time. Crucial pair for the functioning of our defence in terms of footy brains and distributing the ball.
