Yep. The Hawks have won the previous three close games against the Swans. We finally win one (in fair circumstances - 21 frees a piece) and he has a sook on TV and radio. What a flog. If it was 21-10 frees then sure, I?d probably agree with him. But as it stands he?s just a sook that?s too used to getting it his way.

I was looking at the fantasy points and saw that Ronke notched up 121. He created history with his 7 goals & 10 tackles. I thought in all commentary that Jake Lloyd would get a mention. He scored a massive 120 pts in his 100th game. Most unmentioned (? Haha) player especially at the level he is at. He did come 2nd in our B&F last year! As long as he keeps on going i suppose who cares.Comment

I really like Lloyd, but he does play one of those roles where it's easier to accumulate fantasy points.
God, if we could get some consistency in Rohan he could be a great player. Looks like it's just a matter of time until it all clicks, but we've been waiting for 6 years already.Comment

He might be a good coach but as an individual Clarkson is a miserable turd.
I thought Norf forwards got some soft free kicks last week but after Clarkson's outburst I expect we'll see some cheapies given to Freo. Let's hope VFL don't appoint the Hawthorn No.1 ticket holder to cheat us in our game!Comment

I don't recall Clarkson being this pathetic in defeat before (but maybe he just hasn't had the practice). The bleating about blocking seems like misdirection, but his comments about Ronke, which only really serve to diminish the third-gamer's achievements, are a bit strange:
The suggestion that Ronke was just 'lucky' or 'cheating' out the back of the pack on 4-5 of his goals is garbage when you look at the way he played and scored throughout the night.
I was at the game and it turned out Mrs R was sitting a few rows behind us - needless to say, she was pretty excited, literally shaking with adrenalin. Fantastic stuff (actually just like her son, she had no idea how to get into the rooms at the MCG!)Comment

And someone's comment earlier about the blocking comment being a misdirection is spot on. First, it wasn't a block it was a clear hold. Had it not been so obvious they might have got away with it. And this from the team that habitually blocks players standing the mark, who must by definition be more than 5m from the ball. Give me a break. My opinion is objective truth in its purest formComment

Yes, the most ungracious, unclassy, sooky coach in the league. He is just like a spoilt child who has no sense of how fortunate he is and throws a tanty whenever he doesn't get exactly what he wants. And so, frankly, are a lot of Hawthorn supporters. The way they carried on Friday night was pathetic. You'd have thought from the ironic cheers with every free they got that they were being crucified, rather than breaking even. Their overblown sense of entitlement makes them utterly painful.

I don't recall Clarkson being this pathetic in defeat before (but maybe he just hasn't had the practice). The bleating about blocking seems like misdirection, but his comments about Ronke, which only really serve to diminish the third-gamer's achievements, are a bit strange:
?I don?t think he saw it coming, Horse (coach John Longmire) wouldn?t have seen it coming, we didn?t see it coming ? and full credit to the kid,? Clarkson said.
?They?ve kicked 10 goals and he?s kicked seven of them, so they didn?t need ?Bud? after all. It?s a bit stiff, because some of those balls just drop in his lap.
?Over the course of the night we had probably four or five opportunities on some of those goals he got where it looked like we were going to be in control of that play and we drop a mark (and) he slips out the back.
?Why wasn?t our bloke on him? Well, our guy was taking off expecting us to mark it and it?s slipped out the back.
?They?re the swings and roundabouts of the game. We allowed Sydney to kick some easy goals out the back, which hurt us at the end of night.?
The suggestion that Ronke was just 'lucky' or 'cheating' out the back of the pack on 4-5 of his goals is garbage when you look at the way he played and scored throughout the night.
Goal one: Grundy kicks the ball long to a contest about forty metres out. In that contest, McCartin tries to get near the drop, but is being blocked by Sicily. This allows Stratton to fly from behind, but he drops the mark. From a pack of players, it is roved by Towers, who gets it to Ronke. Ronke then streaks away and goals.
Goal two: From a centre clearance, Jack kicks to a contest between McCartin and Frawley. McCartin is the only one who attempts to mark, but because one arm is held by Frawley, he can only go up one handed. The ball spills to Papley who has a shot, but the ball runs out of legs near the goal square. Ronke, who has given Duryea about ten metres start in a thirty yard sprint, beats him to the ball and goals.
Goal three: From a ruck contest in the forward pocket, Burgoyne is done for holding the ball. Kennedy plays on, by handballing to Ronke, who then dribbles it through.
Goal four: There is a marking contest at the top of the square between Hayward and Hardwick. Hardwick doesn't attempt to mark, but Hayward goes for it one handed, presumably because the other arm is held by Hardwick. The ball spills to Sicily, who under pressure from Hayward, serves up a loopy handball to Burgoyne, who is caught by Ronke. Ronke then slots through the resultant free kick.
Goal five: Ronke takes an uncontested mark on the fifty. Seeing that McEvoy is standing the mark, he attempts to run around the ruckman, but is legged in the process. Instead, of taking a set shot, he plays on and goals.
Goal six: On a fast break, Hewett kicks the ball to Jack deep in the pocket. Jack flies, but is crunched front on by Frawley. No free kick is awarded. The ball is roved by Towers, who dishes a handball in the general direction of Ronke. In amongst four or five Hawks, Ronke gathers, evades them all, turns and goals.
Goal seven: Rohan takes a spectacular mark on the right forward flank. Ronke, makes a fifty metre lead from the left forward flank to the goal square. Rohan sends in the kick. Stratton, who was trailing Ronke by about ten metres, makes a desperate attempt to spoil, but the ball clears him and is marked in the square by Ronke, who calmly puts through the winner.
So, I think what is most notable about all of that, is that in only one of the goals, was a Hawk trying to mark the ball. Unlike in the Clarkson narrative, where he claimed that on four or five occasions, Hawthorn players dropped the mark, and then his defenders were caught out by it unexpectedly slipping out the back. What that demonstrates to me, is the arrogance and the sense of entitlement of Clarkson, since he obviously believes that he can go into a press conference and tell total BS, secure in the knowledge that he won't be challenged by the nation's AFL media.Comment

Excellent summary deja!
Like a lot of people, I just love Goal 6. Ronke was surrounded by 4 Hawks, none of whom were able to lay a finger on him.
Perhaps Clarkson was a bit snippy because Ronke managed to make the whole Hawthorn team look silly?Comment

I can?t decide whether goal two or six was my favourite. Two because it displayed just how quick he is, or six because it demonstrated his lower body strength and cool head. What all the goals demonstrated was sound kicking skills. Only the last was a gimme (in terms of conversion).Comment

As far as Clarkson goes, I suspect that one thing that was really eating away at him, was that he may have thought that by his earlier comments, he had manufactured a situation, where our defenders would be punished even more mercilessly, than they were in the North game. When that didn't quite eventuate, a feeling of unjust persecution may have taken over.Comment
