Jack's form is way down on his hey day but there's no-one running around in the reserves who'd contribute more IMO (and that includes Newman). His second half wasn't bad at all and he was responsible for some of the cleaner delivery inside forward 50.

I'm baffled by your comment on Smith. I think he's been fantastic this year and was solid yesterday.

I feel like Jack's been fairly valuable around half forward this year, and was fine last night. Still knows how to get to the drop of the ball, and does a good job creating space.

If we're going to run with a relatively inexperienced forward line it's important to have an experienced head around them as much as possible.

?Former Richmond coach Danny Frawley believes Sydney showed the blueprint of how to stop Hawthorn midfielder Isaac Smith.

Smith has been described as in career best form, but Swans midfielder Harry Cunningham tagged him to 16 disposals in his side?s victory over the Hawks.

Frawley explained how Cunningham was so effective.

?You put a hard tag on him and Harry Cunningham made the point that he played on Smith?s left leg,? he said.

?That?s the way he loves to run, he loves to run onto his left and he had to change his running angle.

?On his right, Smith doesn?t feel as comfortable and it was a very good tactic.?

For the first time I could see the slowness of McVeigh and Grundy really hinder their games. Having said that Grundy covers some distance during the game, and I'm not suggesting either lose their spot, nor and I trying to start a debate - just noticed it more tonight.

The end is definitely in sight for McVeigh. Still good enough for now, but will probably retire at the end of the year, I would think. Grundy still goes ok.

Is it just me, or have the Swans tweaked their gameplan this year? Seems to be a lot more quick chipping around bringing the ball out of defence and through the midfield, and players are taking on tacklers and trying to run or get a quality disposal rather than just handballing or kicking at the first sign of trouble.

Robinson was strong last night, getting his hands on the ball and disposing with great efficiency. I suspect that the televised images from the Geelong match didn't let us see the work he was doing. Could he be someone who benefits from a string of games?
Heeney frustratingly butchering the ball and turning it over, but I'll put up with it because he does so many good things.
Florent and Hayward looking completely at home in the heart of the team.
Cunningham impressive and using the ball better.
Sinclair just mighty. Rohan also good.
Big question marks over the possibility of Newman or Aliir forcing their way in: trade baits?
It will be interesting to see what happens when Mellican, Franklin, Hannebery and Reid come back in: we risk losing some of the unpredictability and become a bit one-dimensional again.

I agree that the end is nigh for McVeigh but he's still playing some great football. Sure, his foot speed catches him out at times but the brain is working better than ever. There are times when I think he'd be better played across half-forward, where he can deliver the ball into the forward line and his lack of pace is less likely to be exposed, but then I watch a passage with him controlling the ball deep in a crowded defence and realise that he's still mighty valuable down there.

We?ve had a few better centre square players, we?ve had a few better clearance or contested ball players, but I?m not sure I?ve seen a player with a pure attack on the contest and the ball in all its forms since Paul Kelly like Heeney.

The ball, a hand in, a tackle, a scrap, things in dispute in the air, you name it - he goes so 100 percent hard at it.

And yes, I know that making any comparison to Paul Kelly is the call it is.

But Heeney is a beauty and he?s been mighty tonight.

Looked like Towers to me, but was unsure as we were on the opposite side of the ground.
