Wasn't there an incident a few years ago when Brian Lake was choking Drew Petrie and he retaliated by eye gouging Lake? If I recall correctly I don't think that Petrie was suspended. I know that what Rance did wasn't the same as choking but he still had his arm pushed down on Buddy's throat. And what's worse is that the umpire was standing right next to them so surely he saw what was happening??Comment

What did Astbury do to McCartin?
"David Astbury, Richmond, has been charged with misconduct against Tom McCartin, Sydney Swans, during the third quarter of the Round 15 match between Richmond and the Sydney Swans, played at Etihad Stadium on Thursday June 28, 2018.
In summary, he can accept a $1500 sanction with an early plea."Comment

Hmm, the bye. It's true, we are now 3 wins / 6 losses after byes, since 2011 when they were reintroduced. But that puts us about in the middle: some teams go worse (Geelong! only 1 win after a bye), others go better (Hawthorn, only 1 loss after a bye).
Difficult to say anything statistical as there are so few "post-bye" games compared with "not post-bye" games. But here's a chart anyway (to 2017).

What you really want to know is which of those games were they expected to win, which would involve getting historical odds for all the games...for another day.
But Rohan going missing in another big game has surely worn out his coaches browny points. If you watch him off the ball, his field positioning instincts seem to be to go to the least likely place the ball will end up. He may be only getting a game because we really drop off after top 15 players, and no one better.Comment

Will only stop once the AFL has a serious stance on over-the-top staging.
Very un-Richmond-like?Comment

I'm sure he does see it but imagine the headlines if Horse said; "Yeah Hanners is playing like crap because he's carrying an injury".Comment

The way Heeney looked on the bench during the game suggests it was a decent knock and I will be surprised if he plays against the Cats. His eyes didn't seem to be focused on anything..Comment

I think the umpire did see. You could hear the umpire say something like ?there?s no reason to hit him high Lance?. My interpretation of those words was that the umpire knew why Buddy had hit out, it was the high strike that was penalised.Comment

Pretty disappointed really. If the Swans play as well as they could and just get beaten by a better team I can accept that. However, we made so many basic errors and handed the game to Richmond. If you take away the final score and look at the stats and the general run of play you would think we got beaten fairly badly. The only thing that kept us in the game was our good kicking (for goal) and Richmond's poor kicking for goal. I feel that we got 'Hawthorned' - whenever a Swan got the ball he was immediately set upon by 2 Richmond players and when a Richmond player got the ball he had space and time.
It was frustrating we made so many basic errors but maybe this is the result of endless pressure. The question in my mind is why didn't our boys ramp up the pressure at the start of Q4 when the game was there to be won. There were too many players hanging back. I can't accept they were tired because the Richmond boys ramped up the pressure. Both teams were 1 rotation down.
Both Hannebery and KJ are just not the players they used to be. I have to agree with others that these 2 are getting games because of who they are. I think there has been plenty of time for Hanners to find his touch but he hasn't found it. Hanners came into the team very young and really threw himself around in his early years. Sadly, I think he's cooked - i doubt he will get better. His disposal efficiency (quoted on here at 25%) was terrible - could have just handed it back to Richmond.
Aliir - I wanted to see him back in the team and I want him do well. However, his tacking pressure is almost non-existant. You'll never make it in the modern game if you can't be bothered to make a tackle.
I think there needs to be some changes but i'm not sure just yet. The boys will look at the game and be a bit filthy with themselves. Next week, I suspect Geelong will find themselves in a hornets nest at the SCG.
...and the Academy award (or is it tool of the week) goes to Alex Rance -Comment

Tigers anticipate turnovers almost before they happen and are all on the move and you just know they will manufacture a goal with Multiple options to choose from.
If you were a Richmond or non partisan watcher , you would just go : that?s gold .Comment

The Swans will have to make some adjustments to the game plan. I've been agonizing week after week about how we are playing so much of the game in our defensive half of the ground, losing the I50s in just about every game. This kind of the game is too taxing on the players and depends too much on midfielders coming back to help in defence, something that we can't do the way Hanners and Jack are playing. It's also a hard task for our younger players who will take time to learn the finer aspects of the game.
I thought Aliir played well enough. He had the most R50s of any player from both sides (6). He only had one clanger and didn't give away a free kick. He is playing tentatively and conservatively, which I suspect he has been instructed to do. He is capable of playing with reckless abandon as well, but perhaps better to build into that game style once he gets used to playing with the senior defenders. I think we could have used him more coming out of defense. Same as the previous game, Lloyd, who directs much of the outlet from defence, tended to overlook Aliir, even when he was clearly open.
I would have liked us to use him more for the outlet kick from defence where he would have had a lot of height mismatches is played correctly. We were killed in this area of the game. I also think we should use Aliir as our second ruckman.
I doubt we will see either Reid or Melican for the Geelong game, coming off their 1st games back from injury as well as a 5 day rest.
We should try Rohan for a few games in the NEAFL rotating between defence and midfield. He needs to find a new position if he wants to continue his career as an AFL player.
We should try to get some more speed behind the ball. We already have enough up forward. If our behind-the-ball players can cover more ground we can try pressing up more and play more of the game forward of centre, even if we risk having the ball come over the back some times. Aliir's speed should help, and if we could get Rohan back there, it could be enough. O'Riordan is not lightning quick, but quick enough and so is Fox. All are candidates for senior inclusion. I would take McVeigh out of defence and put him up forward or through the midfield. He's a good pressure player.Comment

Rance's acting is good enough to warrant a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, yet he suffers no backlash from supporters.
It's almost as if something else was a factor in Goodesy being booed out of the game prematurely.Comment
