Will write some more comments when I get home tonight, but just wanted to comment that I loved Stoddart's game today, especially in the second half.

2 goals 8 wasnt it in the last quarter... many gettable ones too. Disappointing not to get a win.

We collect a million different stats nowadays but the most important one remains goal kicking accuracy. When you have 9 more scoring shots and still lose there is something wrong.

Pretty much. I would have been tempted to put Amartey in there but I guess after those misses you couldn't really. Maibaum shut down Freeman completely - didn't even register a shot at goal.

Robinson was immense in the last quarter, it was a Kennedy like performance with him winning multiple clearances out of the middle and setting up players - at least one each to Amartey, Stoddart and topup Hamish Ellem but they all failed to kick the goal. Brown was also excellent in the midfield in the last but rather quiet for the first 3 quarters. Newman very good as usual - he's way too good for this level. I've seen him play better but he will have done his chances of a senior recall no harm today.

Ellem #57 and Soffe #53 the pick of the toppies up forward, while Dylan Smith #55 who has impressed previously was also solid.

Thanks Ugg, and Liz in advance of her promised thoughts.

Seems Maibaum is impressing this year, slot straight into Reg's spot when he retires?

From a distance I can't see what Newman is doing wrong in the seniors to get dropped, could have done with him tonight.

For me the upside of the game was that Aliir is starting to show some fitness and form.I also think it is a no brainer that Cameron should get a game next week.

Aliir looked lost as usual as a forward, didn't know when to lead and if the play was down on the Brewongle wing you could clearly hear the Swans bench imploring him to lead to the ball when the ball was kicked down that wing. He looked much better as a defender but also continued to be used in the ruck where he has a few clearances.

This is what Horse said earlier this week

                        Nic Newman?s progress
?He doesn?t have an injury ? he was our travelling emergency for the NEAFL side on the weekend. It?s always a bit of a mix trying to get the balance right. As others have, he?s got a bit to work on. Ollie Florent has stepped up in that midfield role and that?s what happens ? it ebbs and flows a bit. But we?re confident he can really contribute to our team as well and he was close last week and he?ll be close again this week.?
