Good clearance and tackle numbers from Dawson again. Outstanding numbers across the board from the top 4.

I do have concerns whether Newman can lift his game enough to hold a senior spot. But what I prefer about Newman, compared to Marsh, is that Newman is more creative and aware of what's happening around the ground. He has more of an AFL level game.
COR plays AFL type footy in the NEAFL. It is time to see if he can produce that in the real AFL. Before AJ's return, Colin, along with Aliir, ran our defence, even though Marsh had more experience.Comment

I've heard we're taking 2 traveling emergencies to Melbourne, so we'll have just 10 listed players for this game.Comment

NEAFL 2018 Round 15
NT Thunder v Sydney Swans Reserves @ TIO Stadium
Saturday 14th July 2018
6:30pm (7:00pm AEST)
TIO Stadium
The NT Thunder have been one of the powerhouses of the NEAFL, winning the flag twice (2011, 2015) and qualifying for finals in all 7 NEAFL seasons. However, they are currently in real danger of missing out for the first time in their history, sitting in a precarious 9th position, with 2 wins and significant percentage separating them from the Top 6. Last week they managed to edge a win against bottom side Redland, overcoming a 9 point three-quarter time deficit to win by 2 goals. That broke a streak of 5 losses. They were once almost unbeatable at home, the hot conditions often resulting in away teams fading away badly in the 4th quarter. However this year, their once impregnable fortress has already witnessed 5 losses.
In contrast the Swans will travel to Darwin full of confidence after defeating the Giants for their 8th straight win and climbed into 2nd spot after Sydney University lost yet again. However the goal of 9 straight victories has come under threat due to injuries to key senior players and are likely to head into this game with just 10 listed players, and could be without a number of key players in O'Riordan, Newman, Cameron and Marsh depending on who the Swans take to Melbourne as traveling emergencies.

Regardless of the fortunes of his side, the one constant that the Thunder can rely upon is Darren Ewing kicking goals. He has led the NEAFL goalkicking charts for the past 3 years, and while he looks to have lost this year's title to Matt Hammelmann of Redland (railing by 14 with 6 rounds to go), he still leads the Thunder goalkicking list with 33 in 12 games. In his 150th NEAFL game, the Thunder will again rely heavily on him to kick a winning score as they won't have the services of Adam Sambono and Hugo Drogumuller who are their 2nd and 3rd goalkickers this year. Maibaum is almost certain to get the job on Ewing.
Other players to watch out for include Abe Ankers who along with ex-Richmond Tiger Richard Tambling are the Thunder's main ball winners. Captain Cam Ilett provides class and poise off the halfback line while former Carlton Blue Joe Anderson has been used both in defence and in the midfield. Tall defender Sam Smith will be matched up against either Amartey or Pink.
Michael Mummery returned from U18 duty to boost the Thunder's midfield stocks. He is tipped to be drafted in this year's draft.Last edited by ugg; 13 July 2018, 05:14 PM.Comment

It’s strange that Stoddart hasn’t been named. I went to the open training session on Wednesday and he seemed to be training fine with the main squad. I don’t recall if I saw Styles or not. There were a lot of academy boys involved in the training and a lot of caps worn. He doesn’t have either the hair or physical stature to make him stand out in a crowd.Comment

It could depend on the injury, perhaps a plane flight could exacerbate it. He was definitely in the Twitter video of today's training session in the green jumpers with the rest of the main squad whereas the other injured players McVeigh, Jack and Ling were wearing red shirts.
edit: Just looked it up, he was diagnosed with concussion from the NEAFL game. Possibly something else since then?Comment

If Stoddart had another concussion earlier in the year it would probably be an automatic 2 week minimum layoff this time round. Or it may be the standard protocol applicable to younger players to give extra weeks off after a concussion so they don't build up a troubling record, like with Angus Brayshaw and Patty McCartin.Comment
