Yes apparently to this logic - five years on. We would have won multiple flags with Tom Mitchell, Shane Mumford and Jed Lamb.

Tippett we were unlucky with as he did play some pretty good game - not great I admit. But to call Buddy's recruitment a mistake is just rubbish. How did Folau go for the Giants?

So, does this make us 7th,and so in a slightly easier part of the draw, and our draft position improves by 1?

Frankly imho i think any criticism after that is deserved. It truly was pretty horrendous stuff today in a big game.

Problem being that a lot of the criticism comes very early in a game and then fades away when we end up winning. Today we ended up losing so a number of the critical posts kept coming as if they were revelling in them. We were very poor but a lot of the same people only put in a lot of posts when we are losing or have lost. Never post anything positive, just sink the boots in when we are down.

We weren't unlucky with Tippett, it was a bad choice to spend so much coin on a player who had one good finals game, Buddy at least had the record to justify the coin he receives.

Isn't there a miscellaneous rule for this sort of stuff? Rough conduct or something similar? Even when I was playing some 30+ years ago it was considered something that you never do because it was against the intent of the game.

It’s gotta be ten tones worse than sliding in boots first to a contest and Goodesy got hell over that

                  1) we recruited the only power forward available (we hadn’t had a genuine power forward for 3 years)

                  2) the best forward in modern times wants to join us. We can make it happen. Seriously, in what alternate universe would we not do it?!

On paper Tippett at full forward (and at the time he was reasonably agile for a 200cm player, who made a contest), Buddy roaming around CHF & bombing them from 60m. Looked good. Opposition clubs couldn’t double team either player. And that doesn’t even take into consideration Pyke becoming a genuine number 1 ruckman who in 2013 was a genuine forward option - second in the league for contested marks and 4th in our goal kicking.

So Buddy’s arrival in 2014 looked very promising indeed. Didn’t hear a lot of complaining up until 27 Sept 2014. On paper a forwardline boasting Buddy, Tippett, Reid. And Pyke in the ruck. Which supporter from any club would turn that down at the start of the year?

The AFL onbviously thought it looked ok and rewarded us with a trade ban for a couple of years.

Now on to your Mitchell tirade.

If we hadn’t signed JPK, Parker and Hanners when we did (prior to Mitchell’s departure) RWO would have gone into meltdown. They were all in their prime and we were all relieved when they put pen to paper. We then drafted a couple of promising kids (Heeney & Mills - and Mills cost us when the AFL introduced a points system to punish us for spending $1M/yr developing kids in our academy). Now we have the somewhat unfortunate situation of securing JPK, Parker and Hanners long-term when they are at their best and having to keep enough coin to secure 2 very promising youngsters (Heeney & Mills) right when Mitchell is coming out of contract when he finally is finding good form (& was essentially over paid for the entire start of his career).

Your 20:20 hindsight is superbly retrospectively prophetic. But realistically, the club made the best decisions about the present and the future that it could at the time.

Sure a Premiership is the ultimate goal, but each year almost 95% of teams fail, if your only measure of success is a Premiership. Since Tippett’s arrival (and everything that has subsequently teanspired with list management) we have played in 2 Grand Finals (almost 90% of clubs fail to do that every year) and we’ve played Finals every year (if you make the 8, you’re a chance, just ask the Dogs).

Time for you to get over it. You’ll probably eventually feel better for it.
I agree with most of that except for the Mitchell trade. I knew (and said so at and before the time) that we would have been better to have traded out Hanners or Parker in order to retain Mitchell. How the club missed that is beyond me. Add to that the losses of players like Nankervous it really gods my gears that we've lost more talent than weve gained.

This game reminded me of the grand final where the Hawks smashed us. We were the hunted today almost from the first bounce and we didn't seem to have the strength, capability or whatever to match them.
Then we stuck to our bomb it long to Buddy or no one in particular plan almost all day, only to see it rebound faster than it went in. No wonder they gave up, I would have too. And yes, it was an embarrassing game to watch in the end, how many free kicks did we give away in the last quarter?
The commentators pondering the terrible win-loss record we have at home this year suggested that there is something wrong with the balance of our team. I am not sure what they meant, they probably didn't either but it is valid to raise the question. Evidently 4 of the 7 losses were against teams that didn't make the eight. For Swans supporters going along to games in Sydney it must have been a bit disappointing.
I feel sorry that the young players didn't have a more positive experience in their first AFL final but with the experienced players unable to make any significant impact it was task impossible!
If the Neafl side play like they did today next week, we should make up for it and ........

Buddy was nowhere near fit. He should it have played. Will not be too unhappy to see hanners gone. Got a few possessions but there usually ended up in GWS hands. Reid needs to be moved on, he is a list clogger. Always letting us down in finals, with " I am injured again". Is Tom Papley a little bit simple minded? Kicked the teams 4th goal when we where 50 points down and wanted to celebrate?. Got some strange looks from team mates.

Ok did you express this opinion (in your 113 posts) at the time? Hindsight. I actually think Tippett was very good in 2014 until he got injured in about round 20ish.

This game is on a par with the 2014 grand final.

It looked to me as if he had infringed against Davis and was then surprised it had not be called.

Can you believe that we beat both the teams playing tonight... It's all between the ears and we didn't come to play today.
