I don't reckon we (public) have the full story. It may be that Essendon know Joe has definitely checked out and therefore the pressure is on them to get what they can for him.

It may be that Papley pick & 25 is as high as we go, maybe we're just sitting there knowing the pressure is on Dodo to accept that. Remember they don't automatically get a compo pick next year, Daniher has to be released to get one. He will be out of contract so if we say we're not trading for him if you choose to match, Daniher doesn't have to sign a new contract, he can go to the draft where he names his terms and let's it be known sydney is his only happy destination.

Hoping like hell that this is the situation, Papley (pick) & 25 max, take 5 & Jones pick to the draft. Do not be paying overs or adding a player, we have too little depth now!

St Kilda expects to welcome to the club before Wednesday’s deadline:

      Hill
      Jones
      Ryder
      Howard
      Dan Butler

Fair effort that to move ahead on the ladder and build greater competition within the squad and didn’t really pay much for them

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Yep, the Saints haven't done it yet but if they do it's very well played. They need to because they have a mediocre list and are losing two players who have been among their best over the past years (Steven and Newnes). Can afford to wish them luck. They also have made out like bandits in their trade for picks with Melbourne. Even if next year's draft is compromised, getting a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick for pick 8 is a pretty good return bearing in mind the first could be better than pick 8 if the Demons have another year like this one.

In relation to GWS I still can't understand why they have traded for pick 6 if they want Green. Only makes sense if they think they can trade again and get pick 3, or more likely, 4. Even if that doesn't happen and they reason they can execute a pre-arranged trade back down the order if we place a bid on Green at pick 5 in the two minutes or whatever available before having to place the next bid, they will still lose out on that trade as their trading partner will want something to make it worth their while and it defeats the purpose of having traded up to get pick 6 by giving up picks 12 and 18. Will be an embarrassing disaster. So far the only way I can make sense of it is if they are really confident no bid will come for Green (and how can they be?) or if they have hopes of trading up to pick 3 or 4. Please share if you have a better idea.

I like the Cameron for Wills swap suggestion. Not much to lose.

I heard Mitch Cleary say that Cutler is an outside mid so would not really be a player in the JPK mould and, in his opinion, not what we're after.

Apparently we remain the most interested in Bennell but most likely nobody will draft him until the pre-season draft. Will be interesting to see if he comes to train with us over the summer so we can run our eye over him. I don't think he'll be back running until January or something.

Still hoping we bring in some midfielders! Why no whispers?!

Well they now have Howard and Ryder. What will they have left after the Hill trade for Jones?

Below is the points which each club has at the end of Tuesday trading.
We are in a strong position to bid on Finn Maginness and Randell.
Why we would want to trade in a losing like Daniher is beyond me.

I strongly endorse this approach. It's one thing to have a rivalry; both clubs can benefit from that. What we don't want is stupid niggling and general nastiness which has us finishing up like the two Adelaide lots on a bad day.

Just contracts involving non-Victorian clubs. The Daniher contract, on the other hand, is so unbreakable that Essendon want two top-10 picks, a second-round pick and two players before they'll even consider breaking it.

This article updates on all the trades done today so far & all the speculation with those that haven't. It also states Brad Crouch is still get able, who will demand a high salary & draft pick. If we're going to sacrifice pick 5, i'd rather it be on Crouch than Daniher. We're in more need of a quality midfielder than a injury proned KPF who may come to us next year anyhow as RFA.

Two theories re: GWS and green:

                              (1) they moved up to pick 6 on the basis we’d be trading 5 to Essendon, but there was always the danger the Bombers would use it on Green as he’s what they allegedly need.
                              (2) they aren’t planning on using it on Green as they already have inside mids coming out of their ears.

                              I’m obviously hoping it’s (2).

We could also potentially get Aiden Bonar with the pick we get from Saints for Jones. Or Wills from Collingwood.
