The compo pick will be at the end of the first round. ie pick 19. (Assuming we offer around $700k p.a.)Comment

I'm still curious about a non-player element of this. We currently have four picks from 44-63. I'm get they may be part of player trades, but curious as to how we use them to fold into our points needs for next year given - maybe barring 44 - they're effectively junk picks this year.
Now, hush. Goodesy was a very late pick.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

It would, if they used pick 6 to match a bid at 5. Although you get something back where a second or third pick is used to match a deal, you don't get anything back from the first pick used. But clubs always arrange it so their first available pick isn't enough. If the Giants went into the draft still holding pick 6 and a bid came for Green before that pick, they would immediately trade down that pick 6 to something worth less than the points they needed to match Green, and get something else back from another club.Comment

No in fact he had a big contract which is why the Giants were willing to let him go so cheaply so they could spend the money on re-signing Whitfield and CameronComment

No. He was on a big fat contract and clearly the Hawks knew that the Giants were desperate to clear his cap space to help them with their upcoming big signings. Still odd that another club couldn't offer more than a 4th round pick, but maybe there wasn't another club willing to take a punt on tying up their salary cap on a big player coming off three knee recos.
Since the Hawks have the cap space (apparently), he's a very low cost, decent return kinda choice for them.Comment

No.
The trade works for everyone. The Giants get him off their books and free up cash to re-sign Cameron and Whitfield.
The Hawks get him cheap from a draft pick perspective but are burdened with a heavy contract (that they can accommodate) and the risk of him not coming good physically.
He's cheap if he can be as dominant as his #1 pick status suggests. But based on what we've seen, how the game has evolved, and his knees.. he is more of a punt than Scully.Comment
