Beauty. Early days, but last year's drafts are looking pretty fruitful.

Yes, NEAFL form suggests, that both Rowbottom and McInerney have long careers ahead of them. Not entirely convinced by Reynolds yet; but there's probably no harm in giving him another year.

So keen to find out what people value compared to what clubs have in recent years Re trades and or picks

If u could swap ur pick 3 for a gun 22/23yr old would u ?

For me it is when u want to spend ur money vs the outcomes u are looking for from the team

For me the swans could be competing for a top8 again next year, worst case scenario the year after ie

        2019 - ?
        2020 - fighting for a 8-12 finish
        2021 - fight for a top 4-8 finish
        2022 - top4

If that is the case I would be aiming to bring in another key midfielder or forward by 2020 or 2021

          Thanks for nothing Dermie!

The young Swan that Carlton should offer big money to: Brereton

THE YOUNG SWAN THAT CARLTON SHOULD OFFER BIG MONEY TO: BRERETON

Hawthorn legend Dermott Brereton believes Sydney youngster Jordan Dawson should be a top target for Carlton, rather than going all-in on someone like Stephen Coniglio.

The 22-year-old has played 10 games for the Swans in 2019 and is in the midst of a breakout season, averaging 18 disposals, six marks and almost a goal per game.

I still hold the view we've made cap space primarily to retain our young rising stars like Dawson & Jones who both come out of contract this year and avoid situation we found ourselves in with Tom Mitchell. I'm confident we'll retain both & even have room to have a nibble at someone like Ed Langdon.

With Reg having already retired, with Jack & McVeigh expected to join him at season's end coupled with Buddy's contract set to expire in 3 years, I'm sure the club has done extensive forward planning to ensure we're in strong position to retain & improve our list.

I think it's a risk for Carlton to over pay someone like Dawson, considering their fleet of first round talent who they must also plan to retain as they could themselves in similar situation as GW$ with their list recently.

But who will be our quality inside mids of the future? Rowbottom is the only one that fits that category at present.

Hewett also fits the bill doesn't he?

Sticking my neck out here, but I think James Bell has the qualities of a versatile mid. If he doesn't debut this season he will next year and I think will be worth watching.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I think he does but he hasn't proven what he can do in that role yet.

Bummer, first pick now sliding upwards, may end up in that region where we often fail to nail it :-(

But I'm ecstatic about that win with basically no bench for the last half. Skills were good, pressure was up, connection from mid to forward was good, Horse can coach!

Usually by mid-season we hear of a few re-signings but less so this year. I have my fingers crossed that our in-demand types like Jones, Dawson and Papley will commit soon. A win like today's against quality opposition tends to galvanize team spirit so hopefully this will convince them this is the place to be rather than with losers like Carlton.

Can we please stop mentioning Papley as a re-signing worry which all came about because of some cheap rumour floated down south. Has anyone been more red and white than Papley? Yesterday he looked like a player thinking of asking for a trade - NOT!

Jones and Dawson are key re-signings but after wins like yesterday and the Swans very bright future, you'd expect it would take a big offer for them to consider jumping ship.

Everyone relax, three junior contract extensions posted Friday means we are slowly working through the unsigned list

Papely doesn't come out of contract till next year if I'm not mistaken?
