The Menzel/Rohan "trade" looks like a nill all draw.

Surely cats a fair way in front at this stage. Rohan has contributed a reasonable amount to their season, especially early on. Menzel for whatever reason can not even make a struggling Swans top 22 (though many would argue he hasn't been given much of a chance either). Will be interesting to see what call we make about him at the end of the season, as we only gave him a one year contract didn't we?

Putting senior players in for surgery early, giving some games to developing players (e.g. Stoddart, McClean) is not tanking, its smart player management

I have no doubt that the 22 on the ground and the MC are trying to win on game day, but we are in a position now where wins on the board are a "nice to have" rather than a necessity

One is on track for a career best goals haul for one of the legitimate premiership contenders, the other has spent the bulk of the season injured/in the NEAFL

Take your red and white coloured glasses off barry

Rohan is not in the senior team at the cats, and may not make it back this year.
I hope he's already got his career best goals, because he's on track to not add any.

Agreed Barry, he seems to have dropped back to mediocrity.

On what basis do you think he won't be back for the rest of the year?

Given he didn't play VFL this week and was listed as managed, I'd be surprised if he's not back in the squad this week

I posted a while back that a KPD could potentially unlock the full potential of our team. After seeing us struggle against Hawkins and now with the injury to Rampe making us extremely vunerable this week, I would say an established KPD is our number one priority. The names that spring to mind would be Tomlinson and Corr from GWS, Howe from the pies, Eagles from the Lions and either McDonald from the dees. I mention them as I feel that all of them could be gettable. An example would be Cameron for Corr given GWS surplus of talks but shortage in the ruck. We could sweeten the deal with picks given they might need them to match bids on Green.

Some of these blokes you mention are not KPDs, they're back flankers. No use against gorillas like Hawkins.

We can't forget that Jack Maibaum will be back next year.

I thought about Corr as a good target if we wanted another KPD and trading Cameron out is a good move if Naismith is fit. I was thinking of Cameron involved in a trade for a midfielder, perhaps Bonar from GPS or Tom Cutler.

I think there is a bit of panic here about our KPD situation because Melican hasn't had a great year. He was improving throughout the season until the last game and I think we should remember that Melican is still young and inexperience.

If we take a KPP situation as a who, i.e. including forwards and ruckmen who can play forward, then we are pretty good shape, except that so many are young and we know it takes longer to succeed as a KPP than for other positions. We have 2 of the best young KPPs come through in the past 2 drafts in McCartin and Blakey, and McCartin may have play in defence anyway when Buddy is fit.

We also have Maibaum, who was developing well before his injury. We also have to provide opportunities for players already on our list. We have a few other KPPs that have a reasonable chance to develop into AFL players, like McLean, Amartey and Pink.

I would wait till next year and see how things pan out with our current players and if we do need another KPD, then look to recruit one from another list. Btw, Corr is a RFA next year, so could be a good target that we can get for without a trade. Eagles is 29 yo and almost certain to be delisted, so we could probably get him nothing.

Just did the ladder predictor and we came third last. Knightmare has Rowell as third pick behind Anderson and Green. Make it happen!

We just need Carlton to keep going on their winning ways.

Hopefully Suns don't get a priority pick. Timing would suck even if warranted.

Green is a GWS academy player, so they'd have the right to match a bid for him. With the Bombers steadily climbing the ladder, their bidding currency is decreasing but the Bombers' first pick and their own first pick will still likely give them enough points to match a top 3 bid on him. And that's before they get more trade currency by trading out players who want to leave for more opportunity (like Bonar). And it remains to be seen what Coniglio will decide to do.

The blues are playing well but still have to play Geelong , Richmond and west coast , with st kilda the only game against a non contender . I doubt they’ll jump above us as much as I’d like them to

If Green was picked before us, we’d just get pushed down to fourth by GWS matching.

The rumour I heard is that Coniglio will be off to the Hawks on a 5 year deal.

edit: Peter Vlahos on 6PR reported this, who is usually pretty spot on with player movements.
