Round 22 - Melbourne v Sydney, looms as a crucial clash to see who can get pick 2!

The Suns don't need more kids. They need more money for better staff, better infrastructure and better experienced players who can make a difference to them.

Why do the Hawks get most of the big name out of contract players? It's not like they over pay them. Clarkson factor?

Because Gil is quite happy for them to have everyone.

I don't think they do - or at least, not as often as they'd like to think they do. Tom Lynch and Dylan Shiel are two players who were apparently heading for Hawthorn - until they chose other clubs.

Still a rumour. Not saying it won't happen but many are fanciful and presented almost as fact. Like just before Horse was reappointed, David King commented he was pretty sure Longmire would end up being Carlton coach. Say no more?

Harry Cunningham has signed back on.
              Good one.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Very happy that Harry is staying. Now we wait for Jones.

Does anyone know if Grundy is still involved with the club even though he has retired? I've been thinking about how Melican has been struggling this year and I thought it would be good for Grundy to help Melican with the one on one contests.

I sometimes wonder whether pokies make a difference.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I'm in favour of HB. He has the talent. His character is the question mark for me.

Our club seems to be very conservative on that front , so I highly doubt it . Look at Sydney stack as an example. Although we weren’t alone there.

That, plus durability of his body. He's been seeking a solution for his ongoing calf issues for a long time now, and has visiting "experts" internationally. Just because he's now consulted someone else and had an operation doesn't mean his body will suddenly recover.

And that's before they get more trade currency by trading out players who want to leave for more opportunity (like Bonar). And it remains to be seen what Coniglio will decide to do.
GWS have a few academy players this year.

If a bid came early for Green, say 2 or 3, they may choose not to match it as this would destroy their later picks.

They also have a few players like Green already so may choose not to go pick another player of his type.

If we have an early bid, i would love us to lob a bid on Green and see what happens; he is pure class.

Or offer GWS our first pick for next year for Hately.

He took a one handed mark during the Port game under pressure which was truly brilliant!!

I would say Coniglio is going. He hasnt signed yet, and the Giants are making noises about player retention.
Put 1 and 1 together and you get 2. ie. they want more retention powers to retain Coniglio. (which they wont get in time).

So GWS will get a pretty good pick for Cogs, and make getting green and any other academy players they want easier.
If Cogs goes, I cant see GWS interested in any trades with Sydney. If they have retention issues with Victoria, why let a player go who is happy to stay in Sydney.?
