Looks almost certain that we will get Daniher, and lose Papley, and maybe Jones as well.

I hope we end up with 2 first round draft picks out of this. Essentially Daniher in, Papley out doesnt impact draft picks. And Jones is a late first round draft pick in. Plus keep our current pick 4. (or 5 or 6 now) .

AFL Trades 2019: Tom Papley North Melbourne contract, Joe Daniher Swans reveal
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Ryder has now publicly indicated a desire to be traded to the Saints, which will further stretch their limited trade currency. I guess he won't cost much at the trade table, given his age, but the Saints are still going to have a challenge on their hands to get Hill, Jones and Ryder all to their club for next year.

Offset a little by trading Steven out.

These Daniher rumours just won't die, will they. Which concerns me, given recent history with a certain expensive, injury-prone key forward.

Given Papley's father's tirade on Twitter, how do you figure we'll lose Papley?

If Daniher comes next year's first is the smartest pick to give the Dodo.

Papley's dad looks very young. I'll have to write to him about the formula of his youth elixir.

Buddy and Tippett.together hoovered up almost a quarter of the salary cap. Leaving far less for other. . . .

                      A) Swans players, precipitating the departures of Swans players that then went on to achieve great things at other clubs.

                      B) Recruits. after the Bondi Billionairs there was no salary cap left to recruit anyone else. The AFL trade ban had no practical effect on the Swans recruiting whatsoever.
Fully agree, and this has been my position over the past several years as well.

Our 'going to the draft' strategy was almost forced upon us by theses circumstances. I commend Beatson and his team for doing such a fine job rebuilding the Swans during this restrictive trade period.

I'd rather risk not getting Daniher than risk losing Papley. Rumours indicate we're not completely sold on Daniher due to his injury history. If we do trade for him now, i don't it will involve our 2020 1st round as we need to bank points to match potential 1st round bids for both Gulden & Campbell next year. I think getting Daniher next year as RFA will be the best outcome for us.

If we finish top 4 next year and bids for both Gulden/Campbell come in the 1st round, under current rules we'd be only be allowed to get one of them (best to my knowledge regarding drafting academy players finishing in top 4).

LOL. He doesn't have much hair now. Lovely family, very down to earth. They bleed red and white. I hope Paps stays. If it came down to giving up pick 4 or trading Paps for a pick 7ish, I'd be inclined to give up the pick 4 for Daniher. I still think it's overs though.

Should we start the 10,000 post thread now?
I'm sick to death of us picking injury-prone players... get a strong kid instead and turn him into a champion.

The need to match bids on Gulden and Campbell next year needs to be factored in to any draft speculation. I'm guessing we would need about 2000 draft points to secure both of them. That's roughly how many points a side gets in total for finishing eighth, but that's not how it works in practice.

Expect to see future picks being a big part of our trades. For example, a possible trade floated (which I hope doesn't happen) was Papley to Carlton, Carlton's 1st round pick to Essendon, Daniher to Sydney. That trade would be incomplete. Papley's younger than Daniher and less injury prone. A future 2nd-round or 3rd-round pick to Sydney from either club should be a part of such a trade.

Or consider Cameron. He may want a trade to the Pies. He wouldn't command a high draft pick, maybe a fourth-round pick. Cameron and pick 58 (early 4th-round) to Collingwood for their future third-rounder looks like a reasonable deal.

Little deals like that where we bank a few future picks along the way would give us a boatload of draft points next year and allow us to match bids on both prospects while retaining additional draft picks. It may gimp our hand a bit in this draft, but with six picks in the first four rounds (4, 23, 40, 49, 57, 58 and we have pick 76 in the 5th round) we have spare picks and plenty of draft currency to allow us to bank a few future picks.
