Popped the Colombo detective hat on tonight and it appears legit that paps interests maybe in melb

Paps attended the the Brownlow with his long term girlfriend

If u do a little google search re paps and his lovely girlfriend Annie it appears Annie graduated from University in Melbourne mid this year and attends lots of fun events in melb with her close friends

Not much time up here In sydney

They appear to have been together a long time for a young couple ie 4yrs plus - so the commute and living apart for so long must be challenging to say the least

If that is Papley's personal reason for MAYBE wanting to return to Melbourne, then it doesn't make sense why he agreed to having 4 year contract trigger clause when his relationship had already bollosomed. I can see why the club are confident he'll be playing with us next year (& beyond for that matter) as it's not a insurmountable situation whereby something can't be worked out in the coming years. (i.e. Club helps his girlfriend find rewarding employment in Sydney, whilst making new friends & keeping contact with the old, which is so easy these days with social media. Only an hour's flight to Melbourne anyway). Nowhere near enough reason to release him from his 4 year contract IF this is the case.

Wasn’t Buddy’s number1 reason for moving to Sydney his relationship with Jesinta?

I feel sorry for paps. Your job and career are important but family comes first. He must be very conflicted.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

I suspect it might be largely out of his hands. If Daniher wants to come, I'd say he's gone. If he doesn't, then he will stay as per his contract.

                Costs only peanuts

Comes across to the hawks for the last 3 seasons and absolutely kills it

Better then any of our wingers including jones

And at 31yrs of age this year still a required player for Hawthorn and gets another season contract while they are developing their young outside players of the future

These types of players are cheap, very effective and he enables hawthorn to be able to play wide and uncontested and be 9th on the ladder in a rebuilding phase compared to our 15th !!!

                Brilliant recruiting
In summary, Graeme Wright > anyone at Sydney.

Was he also the one responsible for recruiting Ty Vickery as a free agent on (reportedly) $0.5m pa?

Genius (in many fields of life, but especially footy recruiting) is so much more obvious when you
                  a) only focus on the successes and not the failures.
                  b) underplay the element of luck

Every club has found players who belied their draft position, or who were recruited cheaply from another club because they were undervalued, or were picked up as cheap free agents but can play a specific role well, or were passed over multiple times in a draft by other clubs. Every club also has plenty of misses - expensive players (in trade or dollar terms) who didn't live up to expectations, high draft picks who never look close to getting a senior game etc etc

We do not have the list management team we had 10 -20 years which built flag winning lists.

Our trading has been very poor the past few years, and hence we find ourselves well out of the eight.

That is the popular theory with the Melb media (particularly Sam Maclure), but I don't understand the logic behind it. Why can't we have both? It's not as if they're like for like players! Paps would love feasting at the feet of both Joe & Buddy. Salary cap shouldn't be an issue either, even more so if we don't hold onto Jones. There's no way Joe is presently worth 2 x 1st rounders if that is behind this logic. One recent media report (Tom Morris) suggesting both EFC & Swans are unsure on committing to Joe long term due to his ongoing injury concerns. Makes more sense we're better off waiting 12 months to pick Joe up as RFA than trading for him now, particularly with any suggestion of having to throw a contracted Papley into the equation. Just madness to be even contemplating this imo.

There seems to be a real lack of delisting announcements across the league this year. I know a few clubs have announced some but as a whole it feels like many clubs (including us) have been unusually quiet. I'm assuming that there will be a hive of activity once the GF is done.

The only reason we didn't play finals this year is because we had to run the youngest team in the comp due to injury.
Absolutely nothing to do with "poor trading in the past".
If a team wanted to be as successful as us, that is, make the finals almost every year for 20 years, then they need to get Kinnear Beetson in as their recruiting manager.
You're not that good at trolling Barry. You're just full of it.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Paps clearly has a motive to want a trade to VIC. I don’t understand why the Swans would want to trade him though. And I don’t think we need to offload him to bring in Daniher.

But I do remember Roos letting Darren Jolly go back with his blessing.

A part of me can’t wait for the GF to be over so we can get into the off-season proper. This must be what being a Carlton supporter is like.

Mitchell was an not an outstanding trade.

I think Buddy, Smith, Grundy, Naismith, Sinclair & Macca’s unavailability might have contributed to our lack of finals this year.

Hanners was/is broken & cleared cap space from an existing long term contract.

Sinks has contributed far for than Jetts under the circumstances.
