I saw some of a show called The Trade Game last night featuring Andrew Maher, Brendon Goddard and some other journo, Browne perhaps. It was, safe to say, awful television.
They all think that the Swans need to give up two first rounders for Daniher, along the lines of the suggestions courtesy of Matthew Lloyd posted earlier in this thread. I can understand that if he played the last two seasons, kicked 60 goals each year and had a long term contract. The reality is his recent performances and contract situation do not deserve a trade anywhere near that value.

When can we sign Harley Bennell?

It’s really hard to evaluate any trade involving Daniher without much more detailed medical information than we have...and the ability to understand it of course!

But if Carlton offered pick 9 for Papley ina straight trade, I would take that without a doubt. Papley is a good player, but he’s not a superstar and is definitely replaceable.

I wonder how much our medical staff know about the state of Daniher's OP. I doubt that we were able to sneak him in for a medical exam, given the many pairs of eyes focused on his every move. He probably had a GPS tracking device implanted in his osteitisized pubis. This would suggest that we haven't even been in a position of making a risk assessment for a Daniher trade. So it's very hard to talk trade value at this point.

In any case, it doesn't seem a propitious time for recruiting Daniher, both in respect to his RFA status next year and the state of development of the KPPs currently on our list. We aren't going to win a premiership next year, so why not wait till before making such a commitment to a big contract.

I'm a bit miffed about the reported Papley request for a trade to Carlton. A few things just don't add up and I think there's a bit more to this story than has been made public.

If we do lose Papley and Jones, our focus should be on recruiting a couple of good midfielders in a similar age demographic. It could be a big year coming up for Stoddart, Ling, Bell and McInerney to replace the loss of pace in the team.

Papley would be a big loss, but I think someone will step up and fill his role, whether that be a Ronke, Bell, Wicks, Foot, Hirst or Bennell. And if not those, Gulden and Campbell should come on board for 2021. But it would hurt for a couple of years to lose such an accomplished small forward heading into his prime.

It's funny how Lewis Taylor's name hasn't come up much with clubs looking a small forward. He's a reasonable target for recruiting, one would think. He does bring some baggage with him and he hasn't quite reached the level one might expect from a rising star winner.

It needs to be pick 9 (will end up pick 10) plus something from 2020 for the points.

Carlton are red hot for him this year as they can see adding a player like Papley could get them to finals. They know they will have to pay overs, already resigned to giving pick 9/10, just negotiating on what they need to give from 2020 to get it over the line.

If it was my call I'd flat out refuse to trade Papley. The rest of the playing group (and the rest of the comp) needs to understand that
if you sign a contract with the Swans you are expected to honour it. If you don't think you will last the duration of the contract, then
don't sign it. Once the club starts letting guys who are one year into a five year contract go, then you may as well say all Swans player
contracts are basically meaningless and inviting the other clubs to start making offers to anyone they feel like. Besides, it would
be best if we don't let the kids take over the schoolyard.

Saw that show as well. Told us zero more than we already knew.

                  Totally agree.
There used to be a time when a contracted player was off-limits. Didn't matter if he wanted a trade or not. There was a time when a player wouldn't dream of asking for a trade while they were contracted.
I think he's being a little up-starty and wallowing in his own press... moving to a @@@@ team like Carlton isn't going to make you a "superstar". It just might make you a superstar in a @@@@ team (shades of Mitchell).
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Ahh yes how could I forget Greg Williams! He had 2 years remaining on his Swans contract but wanted to desperately jump ship. I remember we got Simon Minton-Connell from the deal (i saw him kick 8 goals against EFC on the G one Friday night). I researched what the Williams trade involved and found the following: "In 1991 it took a three-way trade to get Greg Williams to Carlton. Sydney gained Carlton's Simon Minton-Connell and Fitzroy's Darren Kappler, Fitzroy picked up Blues Peter Satori and Ashley Matthews, and Carlton landed Williams."

Does anyone else think that Tom is simply trying it on? If it works he gets lots of money and gets to live in Melbourne with his girlfriend. If he doesn't he stays with a team he appears to like (except Buddy?) and can tell the girl "Hey I tried darling but the Swans played hardball."

Don't think so. He happily signed contract extension whilst in this long term relationship with girlfriend. He could've easily told her I'm a committed Swan now and expect you to support my decision.

Advertiser reporting that the activated extension beyond next year is actually at Tom’s discretion

Oh sorry, Tom, but we did try. And really, that's how highly we think of you.

Everybody's happy. Except for Carlton. I can live with that.

This why (i).....we tell Daniher to prove himself next season to be worthy of recruitment, ie: play injury free for a season, and then pick him up as a RFA

and (ii)...........we tell Paps he's not going anywhere next season and he can leave when we know if JD is worth it or not.

                              No favours to anyone....

Our club needs to grow up and stop rolling over on trades. It's as if they see themselves as always in a weak trade position (because of the general Vic-centric vibe of this league?) and want to come out of trades 'appearing to be a kind and co-operative operator' but they just end up looking like soft idiots......something the other clubs may now see us as.

Play hardball Swans, you're in a league that will stab you in the back at first opportunity....don't turn your back and invite the knives! Get the knives out and snarl back FFS!!
