This is typical of the Newcorpse/Fox reporting - keep telling lies long enough and loud enough eventually someone will believe you..

Why don't they just say he is homesick. Player manager spreading more FUD. Desperate for more commission, or maybe his trade commission this year is looking very skinny.

I hope we can keep Jones. But if we can't, I love this suggestion! Great idea Cosmic Wizard. I wonder if Richmond would consider. Sounds fair to me.

        Re: Papley

Very interested to hear that our board may have intervened. My first thought was "great! this is the kind of oversight that boards are there to provide". My next thought was that this may be a case of Andrew Ireland effectively overruling Tom Harley. (Andrew Ireland is one of 9 board members but when it comes to this type of issue I imagine his opinion would hold a lot of weight.) If this is right, hopefully it's just a case of the governance and systems operating beautifully and as they should, rather than any cause of tension between Tom Harley and the board.

I will also be delighted if we hold Papley to his contract. I just don't think we are going to get an offer good enough for Papely to make it worth our while. I feel slightly for Papley if this leaves him effectively getting underpaid but only slightly because (a) whatever it is, it is still hundreds of thousands per year; (b) the club took a risk too and if it goes pear shaped for the club then nobody feels too sorry for them and they are just expected to absorb it; and (c) he entered into the agreement voluntarily on an informed basis, having been represented by his own professional agent.

“The living arrangements were a big problem for Tom up there. The way it was described to me he was mostly left to his own devices, he was isolated, the people he was living with weren’t a great fit,”

What I find so strange is he hated it up there so much, yet he is on holiday with a bunch of his team maters.....

And its an absolute joke to suggest the Swans simply leave players to their own devices. I've read time and time and time again about the huge lengths the club go to to support younger players - and I'm sure just because he became a 3rd or 4th year, we wouldn't go as far as we could to help out if things were as 'dire' as the media dribble suggests. Its smells of pure blatant bull@@@@ from the media...

Certainly would seem that way - seems so strange to hear such stories of 'hating sydney so much and wanting to retire' (Really????) and numerous photos on Instagram etc of him off travelling Europe with other Swans players....

Must say that I am really surprised to hear this but it could explain why he wants to go and why the deal might happen. But surely it is something the Swans (club and players) can do a lot about remedying? Will be good when the dust settles and we know what is going on and, if we're lucky, why.

Anyone read Barrets sliding doors on the afl app? To paraphrase he’s basically saying that because Harley met with JD, then the Swans better make the deal happen or it’s pretty embarrassing for us . Why do these tossers want us to overpay so badly for a broken JD, and get unders for a contracted Paps?

SEN now taking calls on what Papley is worth on the trade table and course of Carlton supporters are gonna suggest unders, not even their pick 9. Makes me more adamant that we hang onto him because his story sounds BS and ever changing. First he was happy to stay if deal to Carlton doesn't come off & same time rejected Norf's monster offer. Now he is desperate to go to any Melbourne club as long as he's out of Sydney because he's living in slum conditions and feels marginalised. As posters previously pointed out, why the hell did he agree to 3 year extension.

Just heard the full Sam Edmundson SEN interview from this morning about Papley, another bit that caught my ear was he is close to his GF and brother, with a private family health matter being also reason wanting to return. If there's any truth to that it changes the landscape a bit, but then why throw all this other propaganda in with it. It's like we have to sort through to maze to find the real reason if there's any truth to them at all. Heard Gary Lyon telling Sam he doesn't buy the living conditions bit, as that it can be easily fixed by Tom himself and club had already expressed willingness to help him do so. The club must be fuming that Tom's management is allowing all this to spew out.

Agree, one of the few players with top 5th percentile breakaway speed and the ability to attack aggressively.Natural attacking player of which we have few in the midfield.

I don't know why it didn't come to me sooner, but I'm quite sure that the heart of this problem is the Papley-Hayward relationship.

Hayward extended his contract to 2024. When Paps heard that Ollie was also extending his contract to 2023, he exercised the trigger clause in his contract, coincidentally also till 2023.

Papley is listed as an RFA in 2023, which means he's in the top 13 players in pay scale, so it's not a money issue.

He's in the leadership group at a very young age, which confirms that he's a very popular member of team.

Papley feels alone when Ollie comes over and goes out with Will. Or when Ollie and Will go to Thailand together on vacation (last year). No chance this year. The whole group went off together to Europe for ménage à trois, or maybe more.

Yes Nico, you are right that the girlfriend is pushing this in the form of an escape valve out of this predicament.

BTW, is that Will Hayward rolling a joint in the last of the photos I posted?

Simple answer to this. Barrett is an A class Knob. Just posts dribble week and week - how he has a job with what he passes off as 'journalism' I'll never know.
